Hi there, how are you?

I watched the old domestic movie "Tongue Tremor" that was released in 1980. A blog friend of mine Ririka-san recommended this movie. The film has two different aspects, one is a medical movie and second is a horror movie.

The story is about a girl who got tetanus and her parents. I don't want to put much effort to write tetanus and Clostridium tetani infection in English, so I copy and paste the description from Wiki.

Tetanus, also known as lockjaw, is a bacterial infection characterized by muscle spasms. In the most common type, the spasms begin in the jaw and then progress to the rest of the body. Each spasm usually lasts a few minutes. Spasms occur frequently for three to four weeks. Some spasms may be severe enough to fracture bones. Other symptoms of tetanus may include fever, sweating, headache, trouble swallowing, high blood pressure, and a fast heart rate. Onset of symptoms is typically three to twenty-one days following infection. Recovery may take months. About ten percent of cases prove fatal.

Tetanus is caused by an infection with the bacterium Clostridium tetani, which is commonly found in soil, saliva, dust, and manure. The bacteria generally enter through a break in the skin such as a cut or puncture wound by a contaminated object. They produce toxins that interfere with normal muscle contractions. Diagnosis is based on the presenting signs and symptoms. The disease does not spread between people.

Tetanus is one of the vaccine preventable diseases. All of you definitely took a vaccine of tetanus as a DPT vaccine(reduced diphtheria toxoid, pertussis and tetanus toxoid) or DPT-IPV(DPT plus inactivated poliovirus). So we don't need to be too afraid of this infection disease. But some cases are still reported in Japan every year.

I was impressed with one scene that parents were afraid that they also got tetanus from their daughter although doctors mentioned there is no possible risk about infection from blood or something like that based on the evidence. People are likely to lose their mind, people are likely not to believe a correct information under a panic. People are likely to believe what they want to believe. I don't want to be so.

I felt the gap among the age, 2020 and 1980. Some expressions in the film would not be allowed now. And stuffs and the ways of living are slightly different. It was interesting.

Thank you Ririka-san for introduce this film to me. I enjoyed it. When I recommended my wife this film she replied she has watched it in the past. I didn't know this film but it might be familiar in above 40's.

Thank you for reading. Have a nice Golden Week holiday!

Today's DMM English lesson review.

Today's Topic was that Germany hotel has started to lend its room as an office during coronavirus pandemic.

Q: If you could choose, would you rather work from home or from an office for the rest of your life? Why?

A: It is difficult to answer because I have a limited experience of working from home. It is case by case. There are a lot of benefit for working from an office, for example it is easy to build relationship with others at office. It is not neccesary to commute when I work from home. It is one of the benefit of workin from home. I can do various things instead of commute time, for example taking an online English lesson in the morning. My answer is, I can't decide it.

Q: Have you ever taken a nap at work? Please explain your answer.

A: When I was working as a sales person in the past I was working by my car and sometimes took a nap in my car, especially the day after drinking too much the day before.
