Vol.60 Jewelry Designer 3 Lisa Salzer / English
Jewelry Designer 3 Lisa Salzer
Lisa Salzer is a designer of Lulu Frost (another jewelry designer
that Lena Shirai represents in Japan).
She grew up with a grandmother who worked with Estate Fine
Jewelry for over 30 years. Surrounded by these beautiful, fine
crafted, precious objects during her childhood, Lisa (who started
being called Lulu as a toddler) named her business a
combination of her first name with the last of her grandmother,
Elizabeth Rock Frost. Estate Jewelry is fine jewelry made
of precious metals and gemstones, owned, inherited and passed
down through family relationships, often for generations.
Growing up in such an environment and studying Art History and
Fine Arts at Dartmouth College, made it natural for Lisa to design
jewelry and start her business in 2004. Her design concept was
to modernize vintage jewelry. Inspired by pieces she had collected…
antique keys, locks, rare Victorian charms, Art Deco & Nouveau
earrings, she mixed them with contemporary finds, creating
one-of-a-kind styles that were not traditional at all.
“I like to modernize tradition”, Lisa stated.
‘When my grandmother died, I inherited many wonderful jewelry
pieces from her, as well as, the love of the industry. I feel that she
still helps me”, Lisa said. “Now, my mother helps me as a Buyer
of vintage material”.
The hoop earrings that Lisa wears are the metal rims of vintage
eyeglasses! What a creative imagination to see that wire eyeglass
frames could become hoop earrings.
Another example of her creative eye, are pendant necklaces made
from room numbers at the Plaza Hotel. When the famous New York
hotel was sold and remodeled, items from the interiors were for sale.
How clever and interesting ideas! The pendant necklaces became
bestsellers. It’s also nice to be able to choose your initials for an
alphabet pendant. When you wear her jewelry, somehow you are
able to span centuries of history.
Lulu Frost is sold at Bergdorf Goodman and Fred Siegel, Los
Angeles, in the United States. Lisa goes to Japan twice a year for
Trunk Shows and has many fans there. You can find her collections
in Japan at: Barneys Japan, Isetan, Ships, Takashimaya, Tomorrow Land,
and United Arrows.
“Lisa’s jewelry is as elegant as she is”, Lena Shirai said.
“It has feminine, classic design, which means that every woman can love
her jewelry.” As Lena says, Lisa’s designs stir a woman’s emotions.
As usual, Lisa is working in the spacious showroom and studio
downtown with Sandra, Sales & Marketing Director.
Lisa’s next target is to spread her brand, Lulu Frost, worldwide.
I am sure that her dream will come true.
