It turned out on Sept. 8 that the U.S. side had informed Tokyo about the detection of harmful PFAS (organic fluorine compounds) (* not only) near U.S. military bases in Okinawa, such as Kadena Air Base and Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, (* but also various location in the whole country) that the substance is "strongly guessed to be originated from the bases."
Tokyo has yet made this information public.
