On Feb. 20, the government held its 1st meeting of a working group to discuss growth strategies for the defense industry. Participants exchanged views on measures to upgrade the domestic production base.
The defense industry is one of 17 sectors, in which the government has decided to prioritize investment.
The government has a policy to compile a draft roadmap by the spring, in which specific images about public-private investment and so on are embedded.

At the beginning of the meeting, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Ryosei Akazawa explained that "Achieving economic growth and ensuring national security simultaneously is an extremely important issue."
DM Shinjiro Koizumi, who was also in attendance, emphasized that "We will continuously create the necessary environment to upgrade the defense industry and realize a virtuous cycle between defense and the economy."
The working group has been established under the "Council for Japan's Growth Strategy," which considers the government's economic policies.
