Vote casting and counting for the chairmanship of the Kuomintang (* aka Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT)), Taiwan's largest opposition party, took place on Oct. 18.
Former legislator (national lawmaker) Cheng Li-wun was elected.
The KMT's biggest challenge is to regain power from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in the 2028 Taiwan presidential election.
Cheng Li-wun has strongly advocated a reconciliation policy toward China.
Attention will be focused on whether she can expand the party's influence.

Six candidates ran for the party chairperson position, with it effectively being a one-on-one race between "Cheng Li-wun" and former Taipei Mayor "Hau Lung-bin."
"Cheng Li-wun" called for cooperation with China, saying that "I want all Taiwanese to be able to say with pride, [I am Chinese]."
"Hau Lung-bin" advocated a foreign policy to strike a balance between "China" and "the U.S. & Japan.
