On Dec. 12, Robert Charles O'Brien Jr., who served as the (* 27th) U.S. National Security Advisor in the 1st D. Trump administration, said that the next president would likely maintain the "strategic ambiguity" of previous U.S. administrations, which didn't clarify in advance how the U.S. would respond to a Taiwan emergency.
He noted that it was "encouraging" for Taiwan that hawkish persons against China have been selected for senior administration positions, including Senator Marco Antonio Rubio, who has been nominated for Secretary of State.
He talked so at a think tank event in Washington.

O'Brien explained that "D. Trump will create a lot of ambiguity by himself and use it effectively."
