On Aug. 25, a training sailing ship of the Italian Navy (Marina Militare), >"Amerigo Vespucci," made a port call at Tokyo International Cruise Terminal, and the Japan Maritime SDF held a welcome event.
Many spectators, including families, came to see the ship, waved Italian national flags and took photos.
The ship was launched in 1931.
It departed from Italy in 2023 and has been traveling around the world, and this is its 1st visit to Japan.
In strong winds, it motored to advance while its sails were folded up and docked on Aug. 25 afternoon.

On Aug. 22, an Italian naval aircraft carrier and frigate just arrived at the Japan Maritime SDF's Yokosuka Base in Kanagawa Pref.
Vice Admiral Tomohiko Madono, commander of the Headquarters Yokosuka District, made a speech saying that "Ties between the JMSDF and the Italian Navy has been steadily expanding and deepening."
