On June 4, the 35th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre in China, Hong Kong authorities deployed large numbers of police officers to Victoria Park and the surrounding areas in central part of the city, where large-scale memorial rallies were held every year until 2020, and suppressed moves of mourning by pro-democratization powers.
This has forced many citizens to remain silent.

In the night of June 4, Hong Kong police detained a Japanese male who were mourning in the park, and took him to a nearby police station, but he was later released.
The male marched around the park beating drums and was interviewed by Hong Kong media.
The male identified himself as "Iimura Yukio," who is allegedly 43 years old.
By June 3, Hong Kong police had arrested eight pro-democracy activists, who had their hands in online posts over mourning of the victims of the incident on suspicion of violations of the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance took effect in March this year.
