According to the article, on May 14, Prof. Seo Kyoung-duk at Sungshin University in S. Korea, who is a PR activist for S. Korea, explained on his own social media that "Information was provided recently from S. Korean student(s) living in Canada" and revealed that "In a textbook named [Counterpoints： Exploring Canadian Issues] published from a textbook publishing company targeting high school in the whole Canada, [Prentice Hall], the Jeju Island is noted as a Japanese territory."

Prof. Seo Kyoung-duk explained as follows; "The textbook uses a map to explain the situation in which Japan annexed (* not colonized) Korea and expanded its territory, and when marking Japan's territory in1890 in green, it made the mistake of including the Jeju Island."
"What's still fortunate about this map is that the sea between Korea and Japan jointly noted [Sea of Japan] and [East Sea]."
He allegedly pointed that "In 2009, when the U.S. intelligence agency CIA last updated the Japanese version of the map, it caused a controversy by coloring the Jeju Island in the same color as mainland Japan, rather than the same color as mainland S. Korea" and said that "In any case, I will immediately send a protest e-mail to the publisher and do my best to make it be corrected."
