On May 10, Shintaro Wakiyama, Mayor of Genkai Town in Saga Pref., expressed to accept a "literature survey" in order for selection of a final disposal site for "high-level radioactive waste" (nuclear waste) from nuclear plants.
The central government has requested to carry out the investigation.
It's the 3rd literature survey follwing Suttu Town and Kamoenai Town in Hokkaido.
It was paid attention whether or not Genkai Town -- where Kyushu Electric Power Company, Incorporated Genkai nuclear power plant is located -- will consent to the survey as a municipality with a nuclear power plant.

On April 26, the town assembly adopted petitions by majority votings, which were submitted by local three organizations respectively including testaurant industry association and inn association.
In response to that, on May 1, the METI requested the Genkai Town to carry out the investigation.
For the literature survey, carrying it out is fixed by an application by a municipality or accepting a government request. Mayer Wakiyama expressed his intention to clarify his stance within May, and a full-member session of the town assembly was held on May 10.

If it accepts the literature survey, up to \2 billion will be provided by the central government.
Genkai Town is the only town in Saga Pref. that does not receive local allocation tax due to the large amount of revenue related to the nuclear power plant.
Some town councilors deny that it's aimed for the grant money.
