The Buddha statue is "the seated statue of Avalokitesvara," a prefecturally designated tangible cultural property, which was stolen from the main hall of Kannonji Temple in 2012.
In 2013, the S. Korean police have recovered the Buddhist statue from a group of detained thieves, but Buseok Temple in Seosan City, S. Korea, claimed its ownership and filed a lawsuit.
In last October, the Supreme Court of Korea finalized the sentence to acknowledge the ownership of Kannon Temple. Nevertheless, the return of the Buddha statue has yet been realized.
