On April 7, the Chinese PLA's Southern Theater Command, which has jurisdiction over the South China Sea, released to have organized a joint naval and air combat patrol in the South China Sea.
It seems to be aimed at countering the joint exercises by the U.S., Japan, Australia and the Philippines conducted between the Japan Maritime SDF and navy of each country on that day.

By its statement released on social media, the Southern Theater Command expressed that "Military activities that disrupt the South China Sea and create dangerous zones are under our control."
It didn't reveal the details such as the conduct-area and scale of the combat patrols.

The conflict between China and the Philippines over territorial rights in the South China Sea has been intensifying.
At a press briefing on March 28, Senior Colonel Wu Qian, a spokesperson at China's Ministry of National Defense (MND) argued that "The direct cause of the escalation of the South China Sea issue is provocations on the Philippines side."
He also complained the U.S. that "It has no right to intervene, and U.S.-Philippine military cooperation must not undermine China's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests."
