On Jan. 29, the Gunma Pref. authority kicked off the removal-work of the memorial monument for Korean workers erected in the "Gunma Prefectural Forest Park" in Takasaki City.
The pref. authority didn't permit renewal to the civic organization which applied the install, as it violated the rule, and required the organization side to remove that. However, as it didn't consent, it fixed to use administrative subrogation procedure.
It will carry out the removal-work while the park will be closed until Feb. 11. The cost of approx. \30 million will be billed to the organization side.

After the declaration by chief of the urban development division of the prefecture, Wataru Kanai, the removal-work was kicked off.
It's all what we can see based on a footage provided by the pref.authority on that day afternoon and so on. Information on the procedure of the work, what will happen to the memorial monument after the removal, etc. aren't opened.

According to the civic organization, the memorial is 7.2 meters wide and the tower is 3.98 meters high.
The total weight is unknown, and it's explained that "Even if it's returned, we have yet decided where to place it."
Although some persons voiced an opinion that "let's accept the three plates alone," it wasn't a unified view. Concerning the removal cost of \30 million, it said that "We have done our activity with our own money. We don't have such amount of money."
Ahead of the monument's removal, volunteers from civic organization and so on gathered in front of the monument on Jan. 28.
> 追悼碑は平成16年、市民団体の申請に県が「政治的行事を行わない」との条件付きで認めたが、追悼式で「強制連行の事実を訴え、正しい歴史認識を持てるようにしたい」などの発言があり県は 26年、許可を更新しなかった。

The pref. authority permitted erection of the momerial monument in 2004 in response to the application by the civic organization on the premise of "not to carry out political events." However, the pref. authority didn't renew the installation-permission in 2014, as a participant in the memorial ceremony remarked that "We want to appeal the fact of forceful taking away and make it possible to have a correct historical view," etc.
After that, the lawsuit was filed, and in 2023, it's finalized at the Supreme Court that the civic organization side lost in it.
The pref. authority required removal of the monument and restoration of the original condition and continuously talked with it, but failed to reach an agreement.
