In response that Taiwanese vice President William Lai Ching-te belonging the ruling DPP won in the Taiwanese Presidentail electin, at a press briefing on Jan. 17, spokesman of the Chinese State Council Taiwan Affairs Office Chen Binhua emphasized that >"the mainland will expand cross-Strait exchanges, promote cooperation and deepen integration to advance national reunification," after criticizing that "the fundamental hindrance of the exchanges is that the DPP firmly maintains its independence-position."

Chen Binhua once again argued that >"the election outcomes can't shake the fact that Taiwan is a part of China."
In response that the largest opposition Nationalist Party (aka the Kuomintang) becomes the leading party in the Legislative Yuan election, he pointed out that "the DPP doesn't represent the mainstreem public will."
