> 台湾の国防部（国防省に相当）は９日、中国が同日午後３時すぎに発射した衛星が台湾本島南部の上空を通過したとして、携帯電話を通じて全土に防空警報を出した。
On Jan. 9, Taiwanese Ministry of National Defense issued an air defense alert to the entire country via mobile phone, saying that a satellite launched by China just after 3:00 pm on that day passed over the southern part of Taiwan's main island.

According to a subsequent release by the Ministry of National Defense, the rocket carrying the satellite reached an altitude outside the atmosphere when it passed over Taiwan, but there was no advance notice of the launch.
In Taiwan, voting & counting of the presidential election is scheduled on Jan. 13. Su Tzu-yun, a research fellow at the Institute for National Defense and Security Research (think tank), therefore analyzed that "It's possible that psychological pressure was applied to Taiwanese voters."

Meanwhile, the warning sent to a mobile phone had the word "missile" written in English as well as in Chinese. The Ministry of National Defense therefore apologized for the mistranslation.
On Jan. 9, the Chinese state run Central Television (CCTV) reported that "the satellite was successfully launched" from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan Province."
