Prof. Seo Kyoung-duk at Sungshin University in S. Korea criticized that "International embarrassment is unavoidable" against Japan, which raised the Rising Sun Flags at the stadium of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, then was blocked.
The professor posted on his Facebook account in the morning on Nov. 28 that "Japanese football fans cheered with the Rising Sun Flags again in the 2nd game of the group stage against Costa Rica," and revealed so.

On the previous day, at the seats of the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium, where the 2nd match of Group E between Japan and Costa Rica was held, some Japanese fans unfurled the Rising Sun Flags symbolizing the Japanese imperialism.
They attempted to hang the Rising Sun Flag, but they were instantly removed by staff of the stadium.

In response to that, Prof. Seo stated that "It means that the FIFA finally and officially blocked the cheering with the Rising Sun flag. It's therefore very meaningful."

The professor said that "I judge that the block of the Rising Sun Flag by the FIFA this time was excessively proper measure to respect football fans not only in Asia but also all over the world," and emphasized that "Due to the case this time, international embarrassment is unavoidable for Japan, and must make it a good lesson that they should never cheer with the rising sun flag again."

In prior to that, the Japanese spectators gathered a lot of attention for "cleaning up the stadium."
ESPN, a U.S. sports speciality channel, praised them as "perfect guests," as "Japanese fans cleaned up the stadium after their shocking victory (against Germany)."
However, the cheering of the Rising Sun Flag, which began with an erroneous understanding of history, was criticized for having a double attitude, and the value of that admiration was lowered.
