On Jan. 3, Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement calling the U.S. Forces' attack on Venezuela an "armed aggression" and "deeply concerning and worthy of condemnation."
It said Russia was ready to support efforts to settle the issue through dialogue.
Russia has close ties with Venezuela's anti-U.S. & leftist Nicolas Maduro regime.

Russian Foreign Ministry expressed "deep concern" at news reports that President Nicolas Maduro was detained by U.S. Forces.
It criticized that, if it's true, "an unacceptable violation of the sovereignty of an independent state."
Concerning the U.S. claims which increased military pressure, it emphasized that "it's a pretext to justify the attack and lack persuasiveness."
The Ministry expressed solidarity with the Venezuelan nationals, and said it supported the Venezuelan government's request for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.
