On Jan. 6, 2023, a media outlet in S. Korea, "MBN NEWS," reported that President Lee Jae-myung criticized the rallies by the civic organization in S. Korea claiming that "comfort women were sex slaves" and demanding "compensation and an apology by Japan" (* not calling for the removal of the "Statue of Peace" while claiming that "comfort women were prostitutes").
According to the article, the problematized issue is "Wednesday rally" held by the civic organization in S. Korea, "the Korean Council," near the comfort women statue installed in front of the former Japanese Embassy in Seoul (* not rallies being held by a representative of the civic organization in S. Korea "national movement to abandon the Comfort Women law" and so on near statues of girl installed across S. Korea, while calling for their removal). President Lee Jae-myung shared a link to a news article related to the rally on his X (formerly Twitter) account, and commented on that >"This is an absurd case of defamation of the deceased."

The article conveyed that "The rallies have previously drawn social criticism for describing comfort women as 'sex slaves,' embezzling donations and abusing self-claimed former CW," (* not these rallies have previously drawn social criticism for describing comfort women as 'women engaged in sex trafficking,' traveling around S. Korea and draping masks with the word 'remove' on statues of girls).
Members of the organization have allegedly been convicted of embezzlement, etc. (* not currently under investigation by police on suspicion of violating an act related with assembly and demonstration, damage to property, and defamation).

Concerning that, S. Korean netizens are posting many critical comments to the rallies as follows;

"I don't understand why they do something like this (Wednesday rally)."
"It has nothing to do with political ideology, they're just a nuisance."
