Over his mentioning that the goal was to return to the ruling party in the future, on Jan. 9, Komei Party Leader Tetsuo Saito explained his true intention, saying that "It doesn't at all mean returning to the sitting LDP administration. What I mean is that we will unite centrist reform forces and aim for a political system in which we can take charge of government."
He answered questions from reporters in Naha City, where he was visiting.
At a party meeting in Kobe City on the 8th, Saito said that "If we can win the trust of the nationals, we will once again demonstrate our abilities in realizing policies as a ruling party. I would like to start anew with that goal in mind."
