On New Year's Day, I did my 1st shrine visit of the year in Koka City, Shiga Pref.
I visited Aburahi Shrine, Rakuya Temple and Otori Shrine.
Aburahi Shrine is a historic local shrine that has been visited by my daughter for her Omiyamairi (* baby's first shrine visit) and Shichi-go-san (* annual Japanese festival to celebrate the growth of children. It takes place on or around Nov. 15 -- for boys aged three and five, and girls aged three and seven. That's the reason why it's called shichi-go-san (7-5-3)). However, recently, it seems to have become famous as a filming location for movies like "Last Samurai Standing," "A Samurai in Time" and "Boogie Woogie."

On Jan. 2 night, PM Sanae Takaichi held a tele-conference with U.S. President D. Trump, and the two leaders agreed to proceed with the coordination that the PM would visit the U.S. this spring for the 1st time since taking office and hold a summit meeting.
The PM revealed so to reporters after the meeting.
The talks focused mainly on the Indo-Pacific region, and they confirmed their commitment to deepening the U.S.-Japan alliance.
They also agreed to proceed with realization of the "FOIP."
China's increasingly hegemonic behavior seems to be what they had in mind.

During the meeting, President D. Trump invited the Prime Minister to the U.S.
In a lecture in late December last year, the Prime Minister revealed that she was coordinating a visit to the U.S. early this year.
President D. Trump is scheduled to visit China in April and hold a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The Japanese side sounded out a visit to the U.S. in the latter half of March in prior to that.
Japan and the U.S. will work out a specific schedule from now on.

The Prime Minister did not reveal specific details of what was exchanged over China during the meeting.
While Sino-Japanese strain has intensified ignited by the PM's Diet answering about a Taiwan contingency, President D. Trump, who places importance on trade negotiations with China, has externally showed a stance of not getting involved in the Sino-Japanese conflict.
