4 NWT    1 “At that time Jehovah said to me, ‘Carve out for yourself two tablets of stone like the first ones, and come up to me on the mountain; also you must make for yourself an ark of wood.

5 NKJV 1 “At that time the LORD said to me, ‘Hew for yourself two tablets of stone like the first, and come up to Me on the mountain and make yourself an ark of wood.

6 NASB 1 “At that time the LORD said to me, ‘Cut out for yourself two tablets of stone like the former ones, and come up to Me on the mountain, and make an ark of wood for yourself.

7 NIV     1 At that time the LORD said to me, “Chisel out two stone tablets like the first ones and come up to me on the mountain. Also make a wooden ark.

2

2 And I will write on the tablets the words that appeared on the first tablets, which you shattered, and you should place them in the ark.’

2 ‘And I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke; and you shall put them in the ark.’

2 ‘I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets which you shattered, and you shall put them in the ark.’

2 I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke. Then you are to put them in the ark.”

3

3 So I made an ark of acacia wood and carved out two tablets of stone like the first ones and went up the mountain with the two tablets in my hand.

3 “So I made an ark of acacia wood, hewed two tablets of stone like the first, and went up the mountain, having the two tablets in my hand.

3 “So I made an ark of acacia wood and cut out two tablets of stone like the former ones, and went up on the mountain with the two tablets in my hand.

3 So I made the ark out of acacia wood and chiseled out two stone tablets like the first ones, and I went up on the mountain with the two tablets in my hands.

4

4 Then he wrote on the tablets the words he had written before, the Ten Commandments, which Jehovah had spoken to you on the mountain out of the fire on the day of the assembly; and Jehovah gave them to me.

4 “And He wrote on the tablets according to the first writing, the Ten Commandments, which the LORD had spoken to you in the mountain from the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly; and the LORD gave them to me.

4 “He wrote on the tablets, like the former writing, the Ten Commandments which the LORD had spoken to you on the mountain from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly; and the LORD gave them to me.

4 The LORD wrote on these tablets what he had written before, the Ten Commandments he had proclaimed to you on the mountain, out of the fire, on the day of the assembly. And the LORD gave them to me.

5

5 Then I turned and went down the mountain and placed the tablets in the ark that I had made, where they remain, just as Jehovah had commanded me.

5 “Then I turned and came down from the mountain, and put the tablets in the ark which I had made; and there they are, just as the LORD commanded me.”

5 “Then I turned and came down from the mountain and put the tablets in the ark which I had made; and there they are, as the LORD commanded me.”

5 Then I came back down the mountain and put the tablets in the ark I had made, as the LORD commanded me, and they are there now.

6

6 “The Israelites then departed from Be·erʹoth Benʹe-jaʹa·kan for Mo·seʹrah. There Aaron died and was buried, and his son El·e·aʹzar began to serve as priest in his place.

6 (Now the children of Israel journeyed from the wells of Bene Jaakan to Moserah, where Aaron died, and where he was buried; and Eleazar his son ministered as priest in his stead.

6 (Now the sons of Israel set out from Beeroth Bene-jaakan to Moserah. There Aaron died and there he was buried and Eleazar his son ministered as priest in his place.

6 (The Israelites traveled from the wells of Bene Jaakan to Moserah. There Aaron died and was buried, and Eleazar his son succeeded him as priest.

7

7 From there they departed for Gudʹgo·dah, and from Gudʹgo·dah for Jotʹba·thah, a land flowing with streams of water.

7 From there they journeyed to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land of rivers of water.

7 From there they set out to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land of brooks of water.

7 From there they traveled to Gudgodah and on to Jotbathah, a land with streams of water.

8

8 “At that time Jehovah set apart the tribe of Leʹvi to carry the ark of Jehovah’s covenant, to stand before Jehovah in order to minister to him, and to bless in his name, as they do to this day.

8 At that time the LORD separated the tribe of Levi to bear the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister to Him and to bless in His name, to this day.

8 At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to serve Him and to bless in His name until this day.

8 At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister and to pronounce blessings in his name, as they still do today.

9

9 That is why Leʹvi has no share or inheritance with his brothers. Jehovah is his inheritance, just as Jehovah your God had said to him.

9 Therefore Levi has no portion nor inheritance with his brethren; the LORD is his inheritance, just as the LORD your God promised him.)

9 Therefore, Levi does not have a portion or inheritance with his brothers; the LORD is his inheritance, just as the LORD your God spoke to him.)

9 That is why the Levites have no share or inheritance among their fellow Israelites; the LORD is their inheritance, as the LORD your God told them.)

10

10 I myself stayed on the mountain as I did the first time, 40 days and 40 nights, and Jehovah listened to me on that occasion also. Jehovah did not want to destroy you.

10 “As at the first time, I stayed in the mountain forty days and forty nights; the LORD also heard me at that time, and the LORD chose not to destroy you.

10 “I, moreover, stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights like the first time, and the LORD listened to me that time also; the LORD was not willing to destroy you.

10 Now I had stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights, as I did the first time, and the LORD listened to me at this time also. It was not his will to destroy you.

11

11 Then Jehovah said to me, ‘Go ahead of the people, and prepare to depart, so that they may go in and take possession of the land that I have sworn to their forefathers to give to them.’

11 “Then the LORD said to me, ‘Arise, begin your journey before the people, that they may go in and possess the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.’

11 “Then the LORD said to me, ‘Arise, proceed on your journey ahead of the people, that they may go in and possess the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.’

11 “Go,” the LORD said to me, “and lead the people on their way, so that they may enter and possess the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.”

12

12 “Now, O Israel, what is Jehovah your God asking of you? Only this: to fear Jehovah your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve Jehovah your God with all your heart and all your soul,

12 “And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,

12 “Now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require from you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and love Him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,

12 And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,

13

13 and to keep the commandments and statutes of Jehovah that I am commanding you today for your own good.

13 “and to keep the commandments of the LORD and His statutes which I command you today for your good?

13 and to keep the LORD’S commandments and His statutes which I am commanding you today for your good?

13 and to observe the LORD’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?

14

14 Look, to Jehovah your God belong the heavens, even the heavens of the heavens, and the earth with all that is in it.

14 “Indeed heaven and the highest heavens belong to the LORD your God, also the earth with all that is in it.

14 “Behold, to the LORD your God belong heaven and the highest heavens, the earth and all that is in it.

14 To the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it.

15

15 But only to your forefathers did Jehovah draw close and express his love, and he has chosen you, their offspring, out of all the peoples, as you are today.

15 “The LORD delighted only in your fathers, to love them; and He chose their descendants after them, you above all peoples, as it is this day.

15 “Yet on your fathers did the LORD set His affection to love them, and He chose their descendants after them, even you above all peoples, as it is this day.

15 Yet the LORD set his affection on your ancestors and loved them, and he chose you, their descendants, above all the nations—as it is today.

16

16 You must now cleanse your hearts and stop being so stubborn.

16 “Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiff-necked no longer.

16 “So circumcise your heart, and stiffen your neck no longer.

16 Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and do not be stiff-necked any longer.

17

17 For Jehovah your God is the God of gods and the Lord of lords, the God great, mighty, and awe-inspiring, who treats none with partiality and does not accept a bribe.

17 “For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality nor takes a bribe.

17 “For the LORD your God is the God of gods and the Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God who does not show partiality nor take a bribe.

17 For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.

18

18 He executes justice for the fatherless child and the widow and loves the foreign resident, giving him food and clothing.

18 “He administers justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the stranger, giving him food and clothing.

18 “He executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and shows His love for the alien by giving him food and clothing.

18 He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing.

19

19 You too must love the foreign resident, for you became foreign residents in the land of Egypt.

19 “Therefore love the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.

19 “So show your love for the alien, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt.

19 And you are to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt.

20

20 “Jehovah your God you should fear, him you should serve, to him you should cling, and by his name you should swear.

20 “You shall fear the LORD your God; you shall serve Him, and to Him you shall hold fast, and take oaths in His name.

20 “You shall fear the LORD your God; you shall serve Him and cling to Him, and you shall swear by His name.

20 Fear the LORD your God and serve him. Hold fast to him and take your oaths in his name.

21

21 He is the One you are to praise. He is your God, who has done all these great and awe-inspiring things for you that your own eyes have seen.

21 “He is your praise, and He is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome things which your eyes have seen.

21 “He is your praise and He is your God, who has done these great and awesome things for you which your eyes have seen.

21 He is the one you praise; he is your God, who performed for you those great and awesome wonders you saw with your own eyes.

22

22 With 70 people your forefathers went down into Egypt, and now Jehovah your God has made you as numerous as the stars of the heavens.

22 “Your fathers went down to Egypt with seventy persons, and now the LORD your God has made you as the stars of heaven in multitude.

22 “Your fathers went down to Egypt seventy persons in all, and now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars of heaven.

22 Your ancestors who went down into Egypt were seventy in all, and now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars in the sky.
