Firefly Habitat
Our town, Hadano City, is famous for its spring water; it bubbles up all over the place. Through a paid transport service for those in need, I often take a neighbor—who lives near our home—to the hospital. In front of their house, there is a small stream.
Me: "Such clear water flowing here."
Passenger: "It’s spring water, you see. Fireflies live here, too."
Fireflies—less than five minutes from our home! I’ve lived in this neighborhood for over 25 years, and to learn that fireflies inhabit the area came as a real shock. It turns out the local residents keep it a complete secret to prevent crowds from gathering.
I’m looking forward to seeing the fireflies next year.
