Ai-chan!! 藍ちゃん！！

It was around the autumn last year when Ai-chan told me her intention for retirement. I was shocked and felt sad but I knew she came up to the decision after thinking over and over, so I couldn't say much to her.

引退の意向を本人から知らされたのは昨年の秋ごろだった。ショックな思いと寂しさがこみ上げてきたが、色々と悩んだ末の決断だったということが痛いほど伝わってきて、

私にはことばがなかった。

I met Ai-chan when I first started playing golf, I was in grade six. She was already playing great golf in the Junior circuit. I was older than her by age but she was my senior in the golf circuit so she helped me with many things.

藍ちゃんとの出会いは、私がゴルフを始めた小６の時です。

その頃、藍ちゃんはすでにジュニアゴルフ界で大活躍をしていました。

年齢は私の方が上ですが、ゴルフ界の先輩としてジュニア時代から本当に色々とお世話になりました。

Back in 2002, "Ai - Sakura - Ayako" were selected as a national team to participate in the tournament in Asia, which was held every four years. I remember Ai-chan being helpful and very reliable. She won a gold medal and as a team we celebrated our win for a silver medal. We had many fun moments together even outside of the tournament, and everyday we were laughing. Those precious days stay in my mind.  

２００２年、４年に一度開催されるアジア大会に「藍、さくら、彩子」のナショナルチームのメンバーとして参戦。

しっかり者の藍ちゃんは大会中、本当に頼りになる存在でした。

個人では藍ちゃんが金メダル、団体では日本チームが銀メダルという成績をみんなで喜んだり、試合以外ではたくさんの面白エピソードがあったりと

笑いの絶えない毎日でした。

どれも大切な思い出として懐かしく思い出されます。

She played great golf in and outside of Japan, setting an amazing record of fifteen wins in Japan, nine wins in the US tour and number one in the World. Being not only a great golfer but as a great person, people from many different ages including juniors must have been attracted to her personality and set out to be like her.

国内１５勝、USツアー９勝、世界ランキング１位という偉大な実績をつくり、日本でも世界でも活躍した藍ちゃん。

ゴルファーとしても人としても素晴らしい彼女は、ジュニアだけでなく、多くの世代の方々が、藍ちゃんのゴルフと人柄に魅了され、

藍ちゃんを目指したことだと思います。　

She has contributed greatly to current popularity in the women's golf!

It makes me feel sad to think I can no longer compete on the same field with such a great player.

今ある女子ゴルフ人気は藍ちゃんの力がほんとうに大きい！

その偉大な選手と一緒に戦えなくなることは、本当に寂しい。

However, I respect her decision and find it brave.

Knowing her, she will, for sure, do her best in the next stage of her life.

しかし、宮里藍の勇気ある決断を潔いと思う。

藍ちゃんのことだから、きっと、次のステージでも藍ちゃんらしく頑張ることでしょう。

Just like when I first started playing golf, I'm happy and grateful to be able to be in the same stage with her for the rest of this season. Thank you Ai-chan for being part of my golf life.

私がゴルフを始めたときに同じ会場で戦い、　

今季も、残りの試合を同じ会場で戦えることを嬉しく思い、

それと同時に感謝します。

藍ちゃん私のゴルフ人生に関わってくれてありがとう。　　　　

I'll enjoy and do my best for the limited time left on the same field with her. Ai-chan, with our Uchinaannchu (Okinawan) spirit, let's bring out our best.

残された試合をお互いに頑張りましょう。
