ヨーク市 York はイギリスの中央部辺りにあり、ロンドンから電車で2時間ほどかかります。
古代ローマ時代からの古い歴史のある城壁都市です。お天気にも恵まれて美しい春のヨーク市を楽しみました。 ニューヨーク（アメリア合衆国）の地名はここから由来したそうです。

York is a historic walled city. It takes 2 hours from London by train.

ヨークミンスター （大聖堂）
その大きさに圧倒されます。
ちょうどパイプオルガンの練習中で、その音響も凄い。
York Minster
I was overwhelmed to the great size of York Minster.
And moreover solemn sound from the pipe organ played enchanced the atmosphere.
ヨーク大聖堂の塔の上に登ることが出来ると知って、挑戦しました。 階段が狭いため、登った人が降りてくるまで次のグループは待たなければいけません。
早めに待ったので結果的に列の先頭になりました。 階段は半端でなくあります。
延々と続く螺旋階段を上って、最初に辿りついたのが屋根の上です。そこから狭い通路を通って、塔の階段へ向かいます。塔の螺旋階段を上っている途中で息が切れて、とうとう一休みしました。先頭なので、私が止まると後続も止まることになります。追い越してもらいたいけど、狭くてそれもできない。
I'm sorry と謝ったら、下の方からDon't worryとの声が聞こえました（私の直ぐ下は夫ですが）。 少し休憩してからまた登り続けて、頂上に出ました。後続の人々も死にそうな顔で屋上に出てきました。 後で分かりましたが登った階段は、275段とのことでした。
I heard that I could go up to the top of Cathedral and so I went to a queue at entrance quickly. But I was a head of the queue because there was nobody. The stairs to go up and down are so narrow that two people can't pass each other, therefore next group can't go up before all previous people return.
Finally it's the time of our departure. I started going up the spiral staircase and arrived at the top of the steeple on the roof.
After I passed through the narrow open-air path, I began to go up the second spiral staircase.
Everybody followed me. On the way to the top, I was out of breath. So I said, "I'm sorry" and stopped going to have a break. A person (under my husband under me) said, "Don't worry".
After a short break, I started and didn't stop until I arrived on the top. When people folowing me came out to the top, I saw their exhausted faces as if they had been going to die.
Later I knew we had gone up 275 steps. (Covent Garden station has 193 steps.)

焼き豚のサンドイッチを食べました。 伝統的なソースというのをかけてもらったら、味がいまいち。
I tried a roast pork sandwich. Traditional source recommended by the shop stuff was a strange taste
for me. It's not my cup of tea.
鉄道博物館
鉄道に特別な興味があったわけでもないですが、そんな私でもとても楽しめました。
珍しい列車やお風呂付の客車など、歴史的に価値のある車両でいっぱい。

機関車と言えばD51ぐらいしか知らなくて、それはそれで素敵なのですが、
イギリスの機関車はどれもエレガントで、力強いというより可愛い感じがします。
3月11日、地震から丁度一年経つのですね。
今朝のイギリスのニュースでもそのことが放映されていました。
こちらに来てから、地震の後の礼儀正しくて我慢強い日本人の態度に心打たれたと、数人の先生から言われました。
また節電や計画停電で大変だった時期が思い出されます。
不便さで思い出しましたが、日本では各家庭で当たり前のウォシュレットのトイレ、イギリスではまだ出合ったことがありません。 慣れたので思うのですが、日本は便利さが進み過ぎているのでしょうか？
Just one year has passed since we had the earthquake on 11 March.
I watched about Japanese earthquake on TV morning news in the UK.
I've remembered that we saved electricity after the earthquake.
