MUMBAI: A TOI report on the imminent danger to King's Circle railway bridge from heavy vehicles passing under it Brand Wallets has led to prompt corrective action by authorities. A protective girder was put up within a week of the report and work on restoring the other one is underway.

The girder, located 200 m away from the bridge, at the Gandhi Market end of Sion flyover, has been restored by the MMRDA. It was knocked down by a garbage truck in April. Work on restoring the girder outside Gandhi Market, 10 m to the north of the bridge, is in progress. "Iron pillars and beams have been put up at the site. The girder will be erected in 10 days,'' said S C Mudgerikar, chief PRO for Central Railway. A container truck had ploughed through this girder in December last year.

Although it could lead to a bridge collapse, the absence of girders was not brought to the Other Handbags notice of senior officials. A Matunga traffic police inspector's letter to the railways and MMRDA was gathering dust. An alert Sion resident, R Sridhar, brought the problem to the notice of the newspaper.

According to MMRDA officials, container trucks going to and from the docks sometimes take the wrong road at night. To make matters worse, the girders were not even lit properly. The solution, MMRDA officials say, is to divert heavy vehicles but the traffic police claims that it will create a new problem.

THE shoulder bag might have looked silver but the message was green all the way through.

At the Lib Dems' spring conference yesterday, Nick Clegg's wife Miriam combined her grey silk outfit with a bag made from recycled aluminium ring pulls.

The eco-friendly accessory was hand-made in Brazil, by fair trade workers trained by the charity Bottletop.

The ring pulls from soft drink cans are linked together with thread and there is a lining to stop small items falling through the gaps.

Party sources said 42-year-old Mrs Clegg bought the bag for [pounds sterling]45 from the Eco Age shop in Chiswick, West London. It is run by Livia Firth, the wife of actor - and Lib Dem supporter - Colin. The shop's website says proceeds from Nike Air Max Shoes the sales go to Bottletop's programmes 'empowering young people through sexual health education'.

It takes Jaeger-LeCoultre about 1,000 ringpulls to make one bag and the process of putting it together takes a day, according to the charity.

About 40 women work at the collective to produce the bags and other fashion items, including belts and keyrings.

Around 2,000 of the bags have been sold since the project started in 2008. Celebrity owners include Peaches Geldof.

The Lib Dem leader's wife Spanishborn wife, who is head of international trade practice for the multinational law firm DLA Piper, got her conference dress from the mid-price high street store Cos. The garment's above-the-knee cut left plenty of thigh on show when she sat down. She completed her outfit with grey suede shoe-boots.

Miriam Gonzalez Durantez met Mr Clegg when they were in their twenties, and postgraduate students at the College of Europe in Bruges. They married in 2000 and have three sons.

Commentators have often remarked on Mrs Clegg's natural beauty and style, and fashion experts say she is known for favouring a mix of high street and designer.

As for her husband, he played it safe in the fashion stakes yesterday, opting for a navy Jaeger suit, shirt from M & S, and Church's shoes.

TONY Roma has a delectable offer for today only, writes SU AZIZ.

HAVE you ever watched a teenager polish off a very large plate of ribs? have.

The spectacle, I must say, is totally satisfying, watching how that teen was methodical about slicing the meat off the bones, then gnawing on the bone to savour its juices. And finally, smacking his lips to punctuate an already satisfied carnivorous appetite.

I began to wonder about it. You see, Tony Roma specialises in ribs. Halal ones at that. And so I too attempted to devour what they call their Beef Ribs Sampler.

Honestly, I can see why the teen had smacked his lips.

Needless to say, the meat was tender, making it easy to slice it off the bones. The juicy flavours come from the four signature sauces - Carolina Honeys, Blue Ridge Smokies, Tony Roma's Red Hots and of course, the original.

As much as I prodded and cajoled, it wouldn't divulge the recipes of these sauces. So, to make do, a compromise was made - it's got a cool deal for today instead of a recipe!

You can to try their ribs coated in Tony Roma's four signature sauces but you have to guess the ingredients in the sauces should you want to cook it at home yourself!

For those more herbivorous, Tony Roma's Grilled Hawaiian Island Salad is a great alternative.

It is, of course, one of the seven salads offered in their menu with a choice of nine dressings, including blue cheese dressing.

Finally, for those with a sweet tooth, there are six desserts to choose from. Their Dessert Trio allows you to choose three out of the six concoctions in mini sizes. Clever, eh?

A SPREAD AND FREE-FLOW OF DRINKS

IN conjunction with the United States' Independence Day today, Tony Roma's having a ONE DAY ONLY buffet spread.

There will be an array of new dishes and its World's Famous Ribs fresh off the BBQ pit.

Also, there will be a free-flow of drinks that includes beer, soft drinks and juices for Carolina Hurricanes kids.

The buffet is priced at RM47 for adults and for children below 12 years old, it's at RM27.50 .
