A DISSIDENT republican who hurled abuse at Gerry Adams during a debate on policing pleaded guilty yesterday to possession of a coffee jar bomb.
Liam Hannaway, a relative of the Sinn Fein President, entered the plea as a man and woman were acquitted of similar charges at Belfast Crown Court.
The 37-year-old admitted possessing the bomb, "energel" explosive, detonators and components for a pipe bomb with intent to endanger life.
watches He also pleaded guilty to having 76 bullets with intent with both charges relating to a search on September 17, 2004. Sources told the Mirror that Hannaway, with an address at Hillhead Drive in West Belfast, was linked to the Continuity IRA but the group has distanced itself from him.
A Republican Sinn Fein source said: "He is not connected with us anymore."
And sources at Maghaberry Prison on the outskirts of Lisburn, Co Antrim, added that he was being kept in the "special supervision unit for own protection, away from the general prison population".
Hannaway was rearraigned yesterday after appearing in the dock of Belfast Crown Court dressed in a yellow T-shirt and jeans.
Following his guilty pleas, prosecution QC David Hunter told the court the Crown would be offering no evidence against 33-year-old Karen Lavery or Kevin Hannaway, 29, both from Rinnalea Walk in Belfast and Judge Tom Burgess recorded verdicts of not guilty.
Requesting that sentencing be adjourned until pre-sentence probation reports have been completed, defence QC Patrick Lyttle revealed Liam Hannaway faces other charges of a similar christian audigier nature and asked the judge if all matters could be dealt with together.
Yesterday sources said Hannaway was one of a handful of people who heckled Mr Adams during a debate at Clonard Monastery prior to Sinn Fein's decision to support policing.
One added: "He was a bit of a loudmouth and he was shouting that he'd do time rather than support the police.
"Apparently he's not trusted by the Continuities and they've put him off their wing in Maghaberry."
