例年８月に入るくらいには咲き始める
百日紅（ひゃくじっこう）
が、なかなか咲かない。
Flowers of crap myrtle normally start to bloom
by early August. But, it's getting late this summer.
今日、桂川沿いと華の池にある百日紅を見ると

Oh!, the crap myrtle flowers on Otohime Island
have started to bloom!!
百日紅（ひゃくじっこう）は
「紅い花を百日咲かせる」
というところからついた名前
一般には「さるすべり」のほうが、なじみでしょうか？
Japanese name of crap myrtle, hyakujituko, means
"red flowers will be in bloom for hundred days"
Name of the tree "sarusuberi" (even monkeys slip off
from the tree: the trunk is very slick) is more popular.
普段咲く花がなかなか咲かないと、なんかあったのかな～
と心配してしまいますが、ようやく花を咲かせはじめました。
You get wonder if something may be wrong when flowers
do not bloom at right time. I'm glad to learn the flowers
have finally started to bloom.
