下着や靴下で戦後有名になったグンゼは、明治２９年、京都斑鳩郡(現在の綾部市で、波多野鶴吉氏が
３７歳の時製糸工場としてはじめました。
それは、地元の養蚕業活性化をねがって，郡是、（グンゼ）すなわち、郡の為との思いで設立したので
郡是製糸工場と命名し、 養蚕農家からは、なるべく高く買うように、仕入れ担当に指示していたそうです。
株は、農家に一株から持ってもらい、集金も、配当金も、社長が一軒ずつ回って集配していました。
他にも、社長夫妻は、敷地内の長屋に住み、庭や道路の掃除、水巻の姿も見られていました。
さらに、工場で働く女工さんの為に、寮建てるのと一緒に教室を作り、先生も採用して、勉強も出来るようにしたので、グンゼの女工さんは皆、人気のお嫁さん候補になりました。
波多野氏は６０歳でなくなりましたが、社員を思う社風には、三代にわたっての従業員も多く、愛社精神から、多くのアイデアも出て、下着 メーカーだったグンゼは、今や、プラスチックフィルム、電子部品、医療、スポーツ関係、エステや商業デイべロッパーまで、１０種以上の業種に渡り、海外にも７社が進出しています。
特にアメリカでは、５歳の心臓病の少女の命を救ったのが、グンゼの医療製品だった事が知られています。
Do you know Gunze changing?
Recently I happened to know on TV news that one of the medical part rescued the life of 5 year old American girl who had the sever heart disease.
The medical part is produced by Gunze.
Gunze is well known as an under wear company in Japan.
It was founded by Mr. Hatano Tsrukichi in Ikaruga, Kyoto in 1896.
It was a silk factory at first.
Because, he wanted to activate the local industry, silk-worm raising , so when he stocked cocoon he paid raisers much price as possible.
He was such a thoughtful president that he was loved by all his employees.
He built a dormitory for factory girls, besides he opened classrooms for them to get enough education.
So, they became popular for men to get ready for marriage.
Adding, he lived in a tenement house in a site for the factory and often cleaned around there with his wife.
He died in 1918 at 60, but Mr. Hatano’s will has been inherited.
As the result, the business has expanded over10 fields businesses
like plastic-films, medical-supplies and electronic-parts and so on.
Nowadays, there are 8 companies in Japan and 7 ones in abroad, China, America and Hong Kong.
Yes, Gunze has been changing and expanding!
