Hey y’all.
Language is fluid and changing. It evolves as new words appear and disappear everyday.
It’s hard to say what “correct” language is.
Words that were scorned ten years ago are accepted without a second thought today.
Maybe this word is one of them.
Or maybe not.
Words, like people, continue to evolve.
The other day my daughter said metcha tabun.
Being a linguist and all, I was like, “Huh? What did you say?”
My daughter took it apart for me.
So tabun is like 50% maybe. Metcha tabun is amaybe which totally lacks confidence—like maybe there is a 20% chance that what you are saying is actually true.
That makes sense. Maybe.
Not really sure if it’s really a thing or if my daughter decided to single-handedly change the Japanese language.
Either way is good, yeah?
Language is fun because it’s always changing.
I wonder what the opposite of metcha tabun is?
A little maybe? Maybe?
Sounds like 80% believable for sure!
多分。
Maybe.
