今日は、アメリカ人がよく使う英語の表現を教えるバイ！
それは、Hold onです。
[ちょっと待ってね] という意味だ。
学校では、よくPlease waitとかWait a minute, pleaseを習うけど、hold onもよく使う。
Many Japanese learn the phrases “Please wait” and “Wait a minute, please” at school, but we use “Hold on” a lot.
結構カジュアルな言い方だ。
It’s a casual way to ask someone to wait.
たくさんバリエーションがある。
There’s lots of ways to use it.
“Hold on a second.”
“Hold on a sec.” (second秒の略)
“Hold on a minute.”
“Could you hold on?”
“Ok, hold on just a minute.”
みたいな感じ。
イントネーションによって、若干失礼になる場合もあるけん、気をつけないかん。
If you change your intonation a bit, it can be a littlerude, so be careful about that.
例えば、これは、大丈夫。
These are ok.
けど、これは、ダメだ。
But these are rude.
[待って！] と同じように、失礼になる時があるので、気をつけよう！
Just like it’s Japanese counterpart, it can be rude, so careful, ok?
