私は、ほぼ毎日、[顔が小さい！] と言われる。Almost every day, someone makes a comment about my small face.
日本に来る前に、私の顔の小ささについて、一回も考えたことがなかった。
I never once thought about my small face before I came to Japan.
確かに、小さい。だって、アベノマスクは、ぴったりだ。
But there’s no doubt it’s small. I mean, the Abenomask fits me perfectly.
けれど、不思議なことに、頭はバリでかいんだ。
But the weird thing is, my head is huge.
高校の卒業式で被っていた帽子は、1番大きなサイズやった。
For my high school graduation ceremony, I had to order the biggest size cap.
帽子が大好きやけど、普通の帽子は被れないけん、LLを買わないかん。
I love hats, but I can’t wear most of them. I have to always get an XL.
天才やけん、脳味噌が大きいことは仕方がない。
But I’m a genius so I have a big brain. What can you do?
笑笑。アメリカンジョークだ。
Just joking.
足もデカいんだ。
My feet are big, too.
26センチだ。
26 centimeters.
日本で、男性の靴を買わないかん。まあ、男前やけん、よかろう？
But I like guy stuff so that’s not a problem.
講演会に行く時、いつも公民館や学校のバリ小さいスリッパに悩まされている。
I’m always in a bind by the super small slippers at community centers and school where I give lectures.
階段に登るたびに、スリッパが小さいけん、足から抜ける。
They always fall off my feet when I climb the stairs.
そして、おしゃれが好きな私は、緑色のスリッパを、あまり履きたくないなあ。
And I’m particular about my fashion, so I’m not crazy about wearing green slippers.
こだわりがありすぎかな。。
Maybe I’m being too anal.
とにかく、昨日、バリ感動するような経験があった。
Anyway, I had a really moving experience yesterday.
久留米で、5が月ぶりの講演会があった。
I had a lecture for the first time in five months in Kurume.
お喋りが好きな私は、興奮で気絶しそうやった。
I love to speak in front of people so much that I thought I may pass out from excitement.
会場は、新しくできた施設やった。
It was held at a brand-new facility in the city.
玄関で、いつものように、靴を脱いで、スリッパを履き変えることになっていた。
Like always, I had to take off my shoes and put on slippers.
スリッパは、あまりにもお洒落しすぎて、興奮していた。
But the slippers were so crazy fashionable I couldn’t believe it.
ぴったり！
Perfect fit.

Birkenstocks!!!
OMG!!なんという思いやりやろう！
What a great example of thoughtfulness.
しかも、デカかった！私のでかい足は、感謝の気持ちで溢れていた。
My huge feet were overflowing with gratitude.
こういう必要以上の思いやりにバリ感動した。
I was moved by this simple action which went way above what was necessary.
お洒落感にも、サイズにも、感動した。
I was moved both by how big and how fashionable to slippers were.
大したことない！と思っている人はいるかもしれないけど、わたしには大きなインパクトを与えた。
Some people may think it’s not a big deal, but it meant a lot to me.
こういう日本の[思いやり] や[おもてなし] が大好きだ。
I totally love this kind of display of Japanese hospitality and thoughtfulness.
こういう日本文化は、素敵だ。
I totally love this about Japan.
講演会は、バリ上手くいった。もしかしたら、足は幸せだったからかもしれん。
And the lecture went great. No doubt because my feet were happy...

They also made us giant lotus root cookies.
