本格的に梅雨に入ったね。
We have entered rainy season for real.
九州では、大雨が続いていて、避難勧告が出ているところもある。
In Kyushu, the heavy rains continue, and evacuation orders have been issued on parts of the island.
withコロナの梅雨やけん、[分散避難] になる。
But because we are in the middle of a plague, it is staggered evacuation.
今まで誰も聞いたことがない単語だ。
Staggered evacuation. That’s a word nobody has probably heard up to now.
言葉は、ホントに社会問題と文化から生まれるよね。

今日は、梅雨用語を教えていきたいと思う。
Today I thought I’d teach you how to talk about rainy season in English.

まず、大事な単語をリストアップしよう。
First, let’s make a list of the important words to know.

湿気。。humidity
蒸し暑い。。humid, muggy

先週は、梅雨入りだった。

5年前に、仕事のため、1年間アメリカに行った。
I went to America five years ago for work.
その間に、友達が日本の家を定期的に掃除してくりたり、窓を開けてくれたりした。
During that time, my friend would check on our house in Japan from time to time, doing some cleaning and airing the place out.
6月に、その友達から連絡があった。
In June, that friend contacted me.
[家は、いい感じやけど、緑色のソファーはかなりやばい] という報告があった。
He said, “Your house is looking good overall, but I’m not so sure about your green sofa.
ちょっとまって。緑色のソファーはないばい。
Hey wait. I don’t have a green sofa.
ベージュ色のソファーしかない。
My sofa is beige.
ホントにやばかった。カビで、ページュ色のソファーは、緑色になっちゃった！
I understood why he was so worried about my green sofa. It was because it wasn’t supposed to be green. The mold had turned my beige sofa green...
帰国した後、あのソファーに[さようなら] と言って、捨てざるを得なかった。
I’m sad to say that after an emotional goodbye, I had to part with that green sofa.
梅雨は、ホントにカビと湿気と戦う時期だ。
Rainy season is a constant battle with mold and humidity.
今年は、同時にコロナと戦わないかん。
And this year, we have to fight COVID-19, too.
梅雨にも、コロナにも、負けないように、笑いながら前向きに頑張ろう！
The only way to win the battle is with a positive attitude and lots of laughter.
