子供がいる日本人は、必ずこの英語を知っておかないと。
If you look up this word in the dictionary, it says, "bothersome" "tiresome" or "troublesome." But to tell the truth, I almost never say any of these words. Yeah, you gotta say "pain in the neck." I have no idea how this term, which translated directly means kubi ga itai, came to mean mendokusai, but well, it does, so let's use it! Maybe it is a huge bother to have a pain in your neck. Anyway, I teach this term to my students every year. I figure, if I teach them practical English that they may actually use, they won't forget it. We practice sentences like these in class:
「この宿題はバリバリめんどくさいなぁ。」
"This homework is such a pain in the neck."
「また英語のプレゼンをせんといけんと？めんどくさい！」
"Another English presentation? What a pain in the neck!"
「TOEICのe-ラーニングは超めんどくさいやん！」
"E-learning is a such a pain in the neck."
学生を笑わせることが出来たなら、多分、頭からこの英語は離れないかな、と期待している。どう思う？いい作戦やろう？学生を笑わせた後、どんだけe-learningやプレゼンが大事か、と、いうことを説明する。
I figure if I can get my students laughing about English, it will stay in their heads. What do you think? Good strategy? After I make them laugh, I preach to them about how important e-learning and presentations are.

There are several similar expressions you can use.
“It’s a pain.”
“It’s such a hassle.”
“It’s freaking annoying.”
“It’s a pain.” は, “It’s a pain in the neck.” の略だ。
“I don’t wanna do it. It’s such a pain.”
やりたくない。超めんどくさいけんさ。
“Mowing the lawn is such a pain.”
草刈りは、超めんどくさい。
“All this paperwork is such a hassle.”
この山ほど手続きはバリめんどくさい。
若者は、freaking annoyingという。
“It’s freaking annoying.”
めんどくさい！
超スラングやけん、上司に使わんでね。
It’s super casual, so don’t use it with your boss, ok?
Freakingは、めっちゃ、超、とても、すごく。

“It’s freaking hot.”
“I’m freaking tired.”

[めんどくさい] と違って、”pain in the neck” は人にも使う。
You can also use pain in the neck to refer to annoying people.
イライラさせる人は、pain in the neckという。
“My little brother is such a pain in the neck.”
“My little brother is so annoying.”
“My little brother is irritating.”

注意点。
*pain in the buttもpain in the assもよく言う。pain in the neck よりスラングで、ちょっと下品(特にpain in the ass) だから、使い方に注意してください。
You will also hear “pain in the butt” and “pain in the ass.” They are slightly vulgar so be careful about who you use them with.
My boss is a pain in the assと言ってしまったら、首になるに違いないけん、気をつけてね。
