昨日のこと、朝6時半に目覚ましで起きて、その日に着る服を集めていた時でした。いきなり全ての携帯電話が大音量で鳴り始めました。
Yesterday, I woke up with my alarm clock at 6:30 in the morning. Got out from the bed and started collecting clothes to wear. Suddenly all the cell phones in the house started beeping loudly!

緊急速報。Code レッド。
It was a national alert. Code Red.
緊急速報はオランダ北部にあるGroningen州と我らが住むFriesland州に出ていたものでした。ブラックアイス警報。薄い氷が道路の表面に張るのです。
The national alert was issued in the province Groningen and Friesland, both located in the north of the Netherlands. The alert indicated black ice. A thin layer of ice had formed on a road surface.
どうも今、気象前線がオランダの上にできているようなのです。オランダ南部は比較的暖かく、気温は５度とか。でも北部はちょうど氷点下なのです。夜越しに、北部はすごく寒いのに南の暖かい空気が雨を運んできて、それが道路表面で薄い膜状に凍ったというわけだそうです。
It seems there was a climate separation running through the Netherlands. The south was relatively warm, like 5 degree celsius, but the north was just below the freezing temperature. The north was very cold but the warm air from the south brought rain to the cold north during the night, resulting the formation of black ice on the road surface.
前日には凍結で滑りやすいというCodeオレンジが出るだろうと予想されていましたが、この緊急速報により、オレンジではなく、赤なんだよと、みんな知らされたわけです（ちょっと朝早いよね・・・、これで起こされた人も多数。。）。赤は危険！外に出るな！です。
The prediction had been code orange with slipperiness, but we were all informed that it was not code orange, but red. This means danger, don't go out!
7時くらいになって明るくなって来た頃、外を見てみると全てがキラキラを輝いていました。どんな感じだろうとちょっと庭に出てみたのですが、ツルンツルン。どこもかしこも天然スケートリンクのようです。学校は全て閉鎖。私も上司から「会社に来るな」とのメッセージを受け取りました。
Around 7 o'clock, it was getting light. When I looked outside, everything looked shiny. I went out to the garden to check the situation. It was like a natural skating rink everywhere. All schools closed. I also got a message from my manager, don't come to the office.

どこもかしこもツルンツルンで外出どころではありませんでした。昨日は業者さんが来る予定だったのですが、Code赤が解除されるまで、約束時間を遅らせるしかありませんでした（昼時には解除された）。
It was slippery everywhere and I had no way to go out. I had an appointment with supplier in my office, but I need to postpone the appointment until the code red was lifted (around lunch time).
業者さんは我が家から南西に車で1時間ほどのAlmereという町に住んでおられます。ようやく氷が溶け始めたころ連絡をして無事会社で落ち合うことができました。どうもこの業者さんの住んでいう辺りは、なんと、暖かくなんの問題もなかったそうです。なんでこのいい天気に自宅待機しないといけないんだろうと思っていたそうな。
My visitor lives in the city called Almere, about 1 hour drive to southwest from our house. I informed him around the time I left my house and the supplier could still come to the office. According to him, his area was warm and there had been no problem. He was wondering why he had to stay home in the morning...
なかなかの体験でしたわ。
