現在子供2人と日本に来ております。今回の帰国の１番の目的は単なる休暇ではないのですが、それについてはまた後日書くとして。この主目的が重きを置いているので、今の所旅行にゆくでもなく、実家付近をうろうろと楽しんでいる毎日であります。
I am currently in Japan with my two children. The main objective of this visit is not just a vacation, but something I will write about a bit later. Since this main objective is very big, we are not traveling around much and just enjoy ourselves in the neighborhood of my parents' house.
ある日、実家の裏手にある竹藪を散策していた時のこと。そう、今は春、タケノコが土からちょこっと顔を出しているのを見つけました。皆様ご存知の通り、このちょこっと顔を出している頃に収穫したタケノコは食べられるんですよね。そして、皆様これもご存知（？）私の自然から食べ物を収穫することに対する熱意（欲望？）。もちろん掘ってみましたよ。（普通、タケノコ掘りはダメなところが多いですが、ここはどうも大丈夫そうだったのです。他にも数人の子供たちが掘ってました。このブログで、禁止になったりして・・・汗）
One day, we just walked into a small bamboo forest right behind my parents' house. It is spring! We found bamboo shoots were coming. As you may know, bamboo shoots are edible, at least if they are harvested very early, just when they are out coming out of the ground. And you also know of my desire to harvest edible things from nature. Of course, we started digging for them. (It seems to be legal here! There are other children also digging them．)
上に書いた通り、最適なタケノコ掘りのタイミングはタケノコの頭の尖った部分がちょこっと土から出たぐらい、（もしくはまだ土の中）だそう。数個を選んでタケノコ掘り開始ー。
As I wrote above, the best time for a bamboo shoot to be dug up is when they have just showed their pointy head above the ground. We chose some and started digging around them.
タケノコの周りを掘ってゆくってけっこう大変なんですよね。周りは竹の細い根がいっぱいで硬い硬い。私はもっと深く掘りたかったのですが、子供達は我慢できず。ちょっと掘ると早々に上の方をもぎ折っておられました。。ま、それでもいくつかは取れましたよ。
It is not so easy to dig the soil around a bamboo shoot, because it is full of the bamboo's thin roots. I wanted to dig deeper, but Boys could not muster the patience. They broke the top part and picked them off early... Anyway, we had some harvest.
母はこんな小さいの食べられるわけがないと言っておりましたが、私が断固食べる！と主張（そして当然のことながら母が調理した。。笑）。結局、結構美味しくいただけたのですよ。
My mother doubted if we could eat them, but I insisted to eat them all. (of course my mother cooked.) We had quite a nice meal out of them.

子供達（と、もちろん私）の熱意は一回きりでは止まらず、実はもう一度掘りにゆきました。子供達は実際のところ、そんなに食べなかったんですけどね、それでも我ら、季節の食材をタダで美味しくいただけましたとさ。
Boys (and my) enthusiasm did not stop after one time, so we went digging again. Boys actually didn't eat them much... but we could enjoy nice seasonable food for free!
