Ocean's Love! :)
Thank you for all of your support of Ocean's Love.
I was really worried about the typhoon that was
supposed to hit, but it thankfully passed right before
the school was slated to start and we got to hold our first
Ocean's Love of the year with the children from Sumire-en.
This will mark our 7th year with them.
Two of the students are graduating from high school this year,
and transitioning into the work field next.
I worry about them and wonder if people will treat them
well or not. I feel as if they are my little brothers and sisters.

心配していた台風も過ぎて、皆さんのお陰で無事に
今年初の Ocean's Loveを開催する事ができました。
今年で７回目の参加となるすみれ園の子供達との開催。
今年で高校卒業という子が２人いて、これから就職。
周りの人がちゃんと親切に接してくれるのか、
まるで自分の弟の様に心配です。
The goals of Ocean's Love are many.
Not only do we want the youth to experience surfing
and feel the warmth and energy the ocean has to offer,
but it also strives to create a society where those with
handicaps are socially accepted, have people treat them
with kindness and understanding, and allow work and
jobs to be provided.
Ocean's Loveの目標は沢山あります。
もちろんまず第一の目標は、多くの子供達にサーフィンを通じて、
海、自然の素晴らしさを体験してもらい、
心をオープンにしてもらう事。
でも、それと同時にOcean's Loveに参加して頂いている
ボランテイアさんの方達を通じて障がいを持っている子供達、
大人の方達への理解を深め、過ごしやすい、働きやすい
環境を作って行く事でもあります。
Changing the subject, this year, one of the boys got to
stand up on a surfboard!
He's been attending Ocean's Love for about three years
now in a row.
At first, he didn't even go near the ocean.
The second year, he went in a bit and played around,
but he was still too scared to try surfing.
This year, he was able to not only get on the board,
but also stood up and rode with me! I was really
thrilled and happy.
I love to see the kids grow each year.
The ocean has a way of helping people open up
and of healing inner scars.
今年はとっても嬉しい事がありました。
一人の男の子が今年で３回目の参加になったのですが、
その子がボードの上に立てる様になったのです！
一年目は海にも近寄らなかったのに二年目には海に入る様になり、
それでもサーフボードという物に恐怖心があって、でも三年目に
なってサーフボードに座る様になり、私と一緒に立ったのです！
毎年毎年子供達の成長ぶりには本当にびっくりします。
海には偉大な力があって子供達の心を少しずつオープンしてくれて、
同時に輝く笑顔にもさせてくれるのです！
凄いですよね～～。
