初詣！
I went to Hatsumoude on New Year's Day.
I found it surprising but there are many shrines and temples in Hawaii.
I guess when first generation of Japanese people moved here to work on the farms,
they brought their culture in ways of shrines and temples.
I went to Kouyasan Shinngonnshu Hawaii betsuin by Ala Moana shopping center.
It was a really old, cute, and small shrine.
元旦は、初詣に行ってきました。
私もびっくりしたのですが、ハワイには沢山お寺や神社があるんですよね～。
きっと一世の人々が日本からハワイに来た時に日本の文化を一緒に持って来たのでしょうね。
その一つが、お寺や神社。
私は幾つかある中から、アラモアナショッピングセンターの近くにある古くて、小さい、
可愛い、高野山真言宗ハワイ別院に行ってきました。
I found couple things that are different than shrines in Japan.
One was that there's a paper towel to dry your hands after you wash them.
You will never see that in Japan.
And another thing was what they serve the gods.
There were candy jellies and one chocolate kisses. All lined up nicely.
You will not see that in Japan for sure!
それでも、やっぱりハワイ。
日本のお寺とは違う所が幾つかありました。
まず一つは、手を洗うとことにペーパータオルがある事。
日本では無いですよね～。。
そして、お供え物。
何が置いてあったと思います？？
奇麗に一列に並べてあったのは、キスチョコとゼリー。
可愛い！！ハワイの神様は甘党なんでしょう。。
日本のお供え物にもこういうのってあるのかしら？？
One last thing that I realized was that there's no "osaisenbako",
which is a box where you put money into.
Instead of a box, there was a plate.
I put down a $1 bill nicely on that plate to make my wish.
そして最後に気が付いたのは、お賽銭箱が無い事！
お賽銭箱の代わりにお皿が置いてあって、その上にみんな一ドル札を置いていました。
私もきちんと一ドル札を置いて、お願い事をしました。
After that, I did "omikuji" which is like a fortune cookie.
You get a piece of a paper when you insert $.25 into a machine that tells you what your
fortune is. Mine was "Chuukichi" which is very good. I have
a feeling that this year is going to be a better one than the last year!
お願いごとをした後には、、おみくじ！！！
赤いおみくじの機械に２５セントを入れて、出て来た紙は。。
中吉！
なんだか、今年は去年よりも良い年になりそう！！
