Today's topic looks at growing concerns over how children are using the internet.
SURVEY: CHILDREN'S INTERNET USE INCREASING IN JAPAN
A survey in Japan shows that an increasing number of young children are using the internet and spending more time doing so.
The survey is conducted by the Children and Families Agency. Nearly 2,000 parents of children up to the age of nine responded in fiscal 2024.
Among their children, nearly 80 percent use the internet, including to watch videos and play games. The figure is up more than 20 percentage points from 2018.
The time spent on the internet is also on the rise. About half of the children spend more than two hours per weekday.

A privacy watchdog in the European Union says the video-sharing app TikTok improperly sent user info to China. It has issued a fine of around 600 million dollars.
Officials at Ireland's Data Protection Commission announced the penalty, saying TikTok broke EU privacy rules.
They say China's National Intelligence Law requires all companies and citizens to hand over data. They say the app was not transparent to users on where their personal info was sent, and it had insufficient measures to ask them for permission.
The commission is giving TikTok six months to meet the EU's privacy benchmark. Failing to do so will result in a suspension of all data transfers to China.
But TikTok disagrees with the decision and plans an appeal. It says China has never requested data for European users and that it never provided the info.
