I'm please to have this opportunity to talk about Japanese food and wine. Please feel free to chip in if you have any questions or commnents. I want this session to be interactive. When you think of Japanese cuisine, shushi or tepan-yaki probably come to your mind first. But these dishes only scratch the surface. Japanese cuisine is diverse and offers a broad sensory experience. Now what wourds or phrases would you use to describe Japanese dishes?

-She thinks listening is the most important thing.
What should we do if we meet somebody interesting?
-We should take notes on the key points they make.

Finally, you've written so manuy articles in English. What advice would you give to our listerners on how to learn English or regional languages?
-I useally say to my children as well is to be able to listen. Listening is the most important thing when you learn a new language. And you know, I as a child spoke threee languages because Sri Lanka we have three official languages. And I couldn't even read and wirte at that time, you know, but I learned all through listening. So to be able to listen, I know in Japan it's kind of difficult to hear different languages all the time. So how about listening to English tapes a lot? You know, all the time just put your earphones on when you wash the dishes or when you are in the train. Not to read so much, but listen because I think the ear is very imprtant. So listening is I think I would suggest as one very important way of learning another language and also to take memo not to wite a lot, but just take points. So if you meet somebody interesting and you can just take a few points on what they're saying and then you look later on, later at the points and then add to those ponints. So that also makes you learn a language faster, I think, and try to meet as many people as you can.

Miss Kaguchi mentioned that Sri Lanka has three official languages, they include Shinhaha and Tamil with English as a recognized language. Sometimes the official languages of the contry may be surprising. Canada's official language are both English and French. The United States does not actually have an official language. New Zealand has three, English and Maori and New Zealand sign language. Bolivia holds the record as the country with the most official languages. Although Spanish is the primary language the contry recognizes 37 official languages in total.

Crucial, necessary for something, essential. Miss Kaguchi said that listening is viatal for language learning. Meaning that listening is extremely important if you want to learn a language.
