You describe your music background as the Russinan American school of performance. How has the combination of the American way of life and the Russian music traditon shed ideas and styles? > shed?
As you might tell from my name, Slatkin, actually the original family name was Zwatkin. With that side of family coming from the Ballaruce at the bigining of the 20th century. My farther and mother ware very distinguish musicians who settled in Los Angeles. Particuraly in Hollywood, to play music and studios to play ...quatets and to work in popular music field. The Russian school of music making was very disciplined. But it was mostly about the kind of sound you made wasn't really about the technique, but the sound. My parents working in the different kinds of musical atmospheres would incorporate the Russian heritage that they have from their family and the way they played in the film studios. I grew up very American just like any other little kids I was playing baseball, I was going to school. But I was also practicing the piano and violine. So there was a disciplined upbringing but at the same time very American one. I was just a regular child. Nothing special, nothing different. And I could draw on what I would hear in my house when the quartet rehearsing.. or what I heard when I went to watch them record music for films with my parents. Or when I went to the record studios to see my parents wark with people like frank sinatora... another different way of music. So for me even though I talk about this American Russian heritage, it's really its broader backgrond than that. It'l all about all the different kinds of styles. And you learn to bring your approach and just teach one so that there is a little bit of difference between them. But still it's about ... for me it's about the sound.

Discipline is about strict structure and correcting unwanted behaviors. Having clear rules, and consequences that they are broken. If someone is disciplined, as an adjective, we can imagine they have strict rules to follow or even create strict rules for themselves.

To include something as part of something bigger. Maestro Stlatkin mentioned that his family would incorporate their Rossian heritage into music. Meaning their music would contain bits and pieces in Russian heritage.
upbringing しつけ・養育
Someone's upbringing is how they grew up. The circumstances of one's childfood and the education they received. Maestro Slatkin told of his disciplined upbringing. Meaning his parents probably had clear rules and high expectations for him providing an environment he could focus on things like practicing music.

To use one's experience, inspiration or expertise as a guide. To access knowlege or memories as a helpful resource. An example would be, She drew on her experiences as a cchild with health problems to help others in need. In other words, she used her childhood experiences as motivation and inspiration.

I want take these wines to high-end Japanese restaurants. While restaurants serving French cuisine are experimenting Japanese sake, Japanese restaurants are experimenting less with wine. Our competitors have realized this and start their approach. But you have a broader range of wines to offer at any price point.
I see that's interesting. What about our private customers? I'm not sure if you are aware, but our biggest source of revenue is pravate collectors. Rich individuals who collect and drink the finest of wines. Sometimes worth at twenty thousand dollars per a bottle.
I have little experience with super rich customers. But if I can get a foot in the door, I can hopefully open up my client list through referrels.

So Maestro, first of all, you've been conducting for more than 60 years now. Could you briefly tell us about what you call your baton wielding job journey so far?
Just as a violinist, has a violine to play. I suppose you could say that the conductor plays the orchestra. But really are instruments just a stick. It's for the hold on to, It's for the orchestra uses to see the gestures that conductor makes and showing the expression of the music. In a way it's a silent profession because stick doesn't make sound. And at the same time, it can produce it's incredibly world of sound from anywhere let's say eight musicians sometimes hundreds and twenty depend on the probram. I've been doing this for a long time. And I don't get tired of it. It's not about control for me. It's about collaboration. When I work with the orchestra, I try to show with my gestures of the stick, of my body, my face, what I believe is in the music that are communicate to them. It's not about the words I use. It's about how I feel about music. And the stick is the instrument through which I show that.
Stick is a magic for you.

Right. We see the potential in the Japanese market. But we are finding it's a tough nut to crack due to long-standing relationships Japanese importers have with hotels and restraunts and so far. While anyone can work with up-and-coming entities, how will we convince the old guard, the best of the best to work with us?
I think WCS has an unmatched history in Europe and California. Restaurant owers and sommeliers want a piece of this. To become a part of the history behind the prestigious vineyards, Burgundy or Dell, Mozel, Napa .. WCS's relationship witht producers go back centuries. This is something Japanese importers can not match.
So what are we doing wrong?
I think you need to market your prestige as an importer more. Arrange events to make you customers and procucers feel a part of this centries old regacy.

And I think if I settle down in my current company, my carrier will hit a deadend. All this time the market remains dynamic, the richer getting righer, and there're more stared restaurants in Tokyo than ever before. I want to join the company willing to capitalize on this growth.
