How do you say, 電子辞書 in English?

It's better to use electronic than electoric.

Now let's use it in this sentence.

I used to use an electoronic dictionary.

昔～しました、
The standard phrese is "I used to .."

I don't need that dictionary anymore.

And next, let's build up and make a longer sentence.

How do you say this?

And we built up that sentence、
もうその辞書は必要ありません。すごく難しい単語以外は。

except for ...

I don't need that dictionary anymore except for really difficult words.

This is a common pattern, at first you say, I don't need, and add the exception like saying, except for ....

翻訳アプリ in English is... go ahead.

アプリ is app. So use translation app to say this.

Sometimes I use a translation app.

This is a direct translation.

Direct translations are hard / difficult to understand.

You can also say difficult to understand but in English and in other languages shorter words become more standard.
So for...～しにくい、difficult to understand is longer than hard to understand. So usally you hear hard instead of difficult. But both are OK.

have gotten better

My English has gotten better?
Has my English gotten better?

You can also use improved.
Has my English improved?

In today's lesson let's practice get better, has gotten better.

I think my English has gotten a little better.

Your Japanese has gotten better.

Now Jenny and I will show you the sample answers and give you some advice.

OK everyone. Try to say those phreses in English with in the time limit.

マイクの音量を上げる

Would you turn up the mike?

I'll turn up the mike.
I'll turn up the volume for the mike.

Would you turn down the mike?

I can't hear you at all.

I'll share the screen.
I'll screenshare.

Because screenshare can be used as a verb.
But it's better to make a sentence with I'll share the screen.
It's easier putting a sentence like this question.

Would you stop sharing the screen?
Again, you could say,
Would you stop screensharing?

But usually it's  Would you stop sharing the screen?

I'll stop sharing the screen.

Can you still see the screen?

And here is one more important function for  communicating online.

Here's some phrases about a function called chatbox.

The chatbox is on the right side of the screen.

I can't find the chatbox yet.

Would you write something in the chatbox?

Communicating online is getting more and more popular.

Here's some advice for meetings or lessons on line, when you connect, try to ask some questions, like How are you? , but also Can you see me? And Can you hear me? 
And for both questions, you can put well at the end.

This is such a useful phrease. Sorry?

I know in Japanese, you could say..e? .. u? But in English it's better to have a phrase like Sorry?
You can say, Excuse me? I beg your pardon? 

But this is shorter and a little softer.

Would you sepak up a little?
Could you speak up a little?

Here's the next one.

You know, 元気ですか is How are you?

元気でしたか？
How have you been?

And if someone asked you, How have you been?

Here's the simply reply.

I've been good. And you?

Where are you now?

I'm in California, in Silicon Valley.

Of course you can say,

I'm in Silicon Valley, California.
But for communication, I suggest you go from a big to a smaller place.

I mean at first you say California, then add more further detailed information for the place, like, in Cilicon Valley.

Just imagine you are in a stoar and you are looking for something and you ask the question, Where are the ...?

Where are the spices?

That's a good one for a grocery store.

Do you have ... in stock?

Imagine you are looking for something but it's not on the shelf...

So you have to use this phrase, Do you have ... in stock?

Do you have cinnamon in stock?

Imagine you had a problem with a product.
You go back to the store and you return it.
Use this phrase to explain the reason. 

It's not the right....
It could be the size, the shpe, the color or anything else.

It's not the right size.

It's not the right length.

You might feel that way often.

That's also a good way to express it.

Yes, sometimes I do. Escpecially when there is a long  line at the regular register.
So is self register faster for you?
