ドイツとデンマークの間、
バルト海に海底トンネル
「フェーマルンベルト・トンネル」が
今建設されているのだそうです。
完成すれば世界最長の沈埋トンネル。
全長約18kmのこのトンネルが完成すれば、
ドイツのハンブルクから
デンマークのコペンハーゲンまでの移動時間は、
これまでの5時間から2.5時間に短縮されます！！
また現在、現在フェリーで
45分かかる海峡横断が、
車で10分、電車で7分に
短縮される見込みなんだそうです！
北欧と中央ヨーロッパを
より強く結びつけることになりそう。
このまま順調に進めば、
2029年に開通予定！楽しみですね！！！
つまり巨大レゴを海底で繋ぎ合わせて、
デンマークとドイツを近くするっていう
プロジェクトだったわけです。

The Fehmarnbelt Tunnel, currently under construction, will connect Rødbyhavn on the Danish island of Lolland with Puttgarden on Germany’s Fehmarn Island.
It’ll be an 18 km long immersed tunnel with four separate lanes: two for a four-lane highway and two for high-speed trains.
Thanks to this tunnel, Denmark and Germany are going to feel a lot closer!
現在建設中のフェーマルンベルト・トンネルは、
デンマークのロラン島レズビュハウンと
ドイツのフェーマルン島プットガルデンを
結ぶ全長18kmの沈埋トンネルなんです。
2本の片側2車線の自動車用高速道路と、
高速鉄道対応の鉄道2本、
合わせて4本の通路が設けられます。
これでデンマークとドイツが
めっっちゃ近くなるみたい。
An immersed tunnel is built under bodies of water like seas or rivers.
Basically, they pre-make huge concrete sections (called immersion elements) on land, then sink and connect them underwater—kind of like putting together giant LEGO blocks under the sea.
Compared to digging through the seabed or building a massive bridge, this method is quicker and has less environmental impact.
沈埋（ちんまい）トンネルとは、
海や川の底に作るトンネルの一種で、
あらかじめ陸上で作った
コンクリート製のブロック
（沈埋函：ちんまいかん）を水中に沈め、
つなぎ合わせる工法なんだそう。
いわば巨大なレゴブロックを
水の中で組み合わせるようなもの。
海底を掘るより工期が短く、
大規模な橋を作るより環境への影響が
少ないのが特徴なんです！
The Danish government is covering most of the cost for the tunnel and related construction, while the German government is responsible for the land-based infrastructure on their side.
The EU is also expected to help fund the project.
When we think of undersea tunnels, we often think of Japan’s Seikan Tunnel (53.85 km) or the Channel Tunnel between the UK and France (50.45 km).
But the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel is being built using a completely different method—immersed tunneling—which makes this project a whole new kind of technical challenge!
デンマーク政府が
トンネル本体および関連工事費を主に負担し、
ドイツ政府は自国側の
陸上設備の費用を負担するんだって。
また、EUからの資金支援も予定されているそうです。
「海底トンネル」といえば、
日本の青函トンネル（全長53.85km）や
英仏海峡トンネル（全長50.45km）が有名。
フェーマルンベルト・トンネルは、
これらとは異なる「沈埋工法」で建設され、
まったく新しい技術と挑戦に満ちた
プロジェクトとなりそう！
「immersed」 は主に「浸された」「沈められた」「没頭している」という意味を持つ形容詞・動詞（過去分詞）です。
