クリスマスといえば、
クリスマスツリーですが、
みなさんは去年のクリスマス、
ツリーを用意しましたか？？
海外では
本物の木を用意する家庭も
たくさんいるようです。
だけどクリスマスが終わった後で、
ツリーの処分に
困ってしまいますよね。
そこで、
イギリスのブリストルにある
『Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm』という
動物園では、
地域住民たちに
飾り終えたクリスマスツリーを
寄付するように
呼びかけられているのだそうです。。
なんかみんな嬉しそう。笑
この活動を初めて５年が経ち、
約1,5000本のクリスマスツリーを
ゴミ埋立地から救出したんだって。
ちなみに、
動物たちのクリスマスツリーの楽しみ方は
みんなさまざま。

Do you guys put up a Christmas tree? I used to decorate one properly, but lately, I’ve been way too busy to even think about it. In Japan, most people use fake Christmas trees, but in a lot of other countries, families actually use real fir trees for their Christmas decorations.
みなさんはクリスマスツリーを飾る派ですか？
私は昔はちゃんと飾ってたけど、
最近は忙しすぎて
全然そんなの飾れてない、、、。
日本では偽物のクリスマスツリーを
飾る事が多いですが、
海外ではけっこう多くの家庭で
本物のモミの木を使用した
クリスマスツリーを用意しているようです。
But here’s the thing—after the Christmas season is over, many families just end up throwing those trees away. That’s where a zoo in Bristol, UK, called ‘Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm’ came up with a great idea. They asked local residents to donate their used Christmas trees.

捨てるしかないお家も多いんだって。
そこで、イギリスのブリストルにある
『Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm』
という動物園では、
使用済みのモミの木を寄付して
欲しいと近隣住民にお願いしました。
Turns out, the animals absolutely love it! Different animals use the trees in all sorts of ways. For example, elephants eat them, rhinos enjoy foraging for food around the trees, and some animals even rub their bodies against them to enjoy the scent. It’s such a fun and eco-friendly way to recycle Christmas trees!
実は動物たちが大喜びなんです。
モミの木の使用方法はおうちによって様々で、
例えば象さんはツリーを食べたり、
サイはツリーの間で餌を探すのが大好き。
ツリーに体を擦り付けて、
その香りを楽しむのが
好きな動物もいっぱいいるそうです。
Foraging とは、「食べ物を探し回ること」や「採集すること」を指します。動物や人が自然の中で食べ物を探す行動を表現する際に使います。
