のっけから、お見苦しいものを再掲し、申し訳ございません。昨年2月に、沖縄県名護市を訪れた際に、辺野古交差点のすぐ近くにある大きな案内板の真下で、撮った写真です。僕の顔の、向かって左側にある白地の表示板を、ご覧いただきたくて、再掲しました。
この表示板に、どのような文章が書かれているか。インターネット上に、この表示板を大きく写した写真がございましたので、それを見ながら、書き起こしてみます。因みに、表示板の右上部に添えられている肖像写真は、ハリー・アップル中佐（Lieutenant Colonel Harry Apple）のものです。

アプルタウン(＊1)の由来
1957年、辺野古区は将来的展望に立ち地域開発を進めるため、都市計画委員会を設置して
当時の集落後方の丘陵地（現在のこの地区）における宅地開発事業を開始した。
この事業は、辺野古区民の知恵と団結、そして米軍、特に民政府土地課長アップル中佐が造
成事業に理解を示し、重機等の貸付におしみなく協力してくれたことにより実現した。
その功績をたたえ「アップルタウン」と称号する事となり、1957年9月16日琉球政府
主席室において区長以下有志出席の下に、第一期区画整理地を「アップル町」とする命名伝達

The Origin of "Apple-Town"
In 1957, the Henoko region of Okinawa set up a city planning committee
designed to advance future development of the community. One of the projects
started by the committee was to develop a 50-acre piece of land that overlooked
the village of Henoko, Okinawa.
With the joint help of the local community and U.S. Military in Okinawa, the
project was a success. Special thanks were given to Lt. Col. Harry Apple, a
USCAR(＊2) land officer for generously supplying the heavy industry equipment
required to complete the task and continuously supporting the project through
to the very end.
To honor his commitment and effort, the area of land that makes up the
overlooking hill was named "Apple-Town" by the president of the committee in a
ceremony held at the Ryukyu Administration Office on September 16th, 1957.

キャンプ・シュワブは、どういう経緯があって、名護市東海岸の久辺地区（豊原、辺野古、久志）一帯に、所在しているのか。基地の地主への賃借料は、滞り無く支払われている中、自民党政権までもが、いよいよ、沖縄基地負担などという言葉を使い始めました。国防の任務を遂行する者の存在を、負担だと言い切る人の精神を、僕は、理解しないし、支持しません。
日本国民は、公金にたかって平気な国民に、成り下がりつつあるのでしょうか。次回、この問題について書かせていただきます。
