最高のクリスマスプレゼントが届きました。70s Country Rock Band Firefallの新作がリリースされました。実に25年ぶりだそうです。Firefallは1974年にアメリカはコロラドで結成されました。The Flying Burrito brothersのRick Roberts、ZephyrのJock Bartley、Jo Jo GunneのMark Andes、The ByrdsのMichael Clarke等が集まったFirefallは76年1stアルバムFirefallをリリースしました。当時私は渋谷にあったレコード店Ciscoの店員のお兄さんのオススメで購入しました。捨て曲なし1stで彼らの最高傑作だと今でも思っております。その後メンバーの入れ替えを繰り返し曲風もCountry RockからAOR的になったりとしましたが、現在でもJock Bartley(70)を中心に活動していたんですね。

さて新作アルバムのタイトルはComet（彗星）です。リリースされたばかりで詳しい内容が分からないまま、再生ボタンをクリック、その瞬間から楽曲がすべてを教えてくれました。全曲捨て曲ないどころか、涙モノばかり、間違いなく私にとって今年リリースした中でNo.1アルバムであることを確信しました。
とにかく聴いてください。一曲目からボロ泣きです。ネットでは歌詞がアップされていましたのでコピペしました。

大好きなアーティストが沢山登場してます。曲風ではDylanのMy Back Pagesが浮かんでしまいました。次の曲も私好みのメロディ、どこか1stアルバムを彷彿とさせてくれます。
注目の３曲目はギターでJohn Mcfee、ヴォーカルでTimothy B. Schmitが参加してます。豪華豪華小田急ハルク豪華ってまだあるのかな？
70年代に活躍したCountry Rock West Coast Rockのアーティスト共通のステータスがメローバラードです。どれだけ喰べてもお腹いっぱいにならない最高のご馳走です。
アルバム最後を飾るのがA New Mexicoです。Firefallファンなら1stアルバムに収録されているRick Robertsの名曲Mexicoを思い出しますね。イントロからこれはアンサーソングなのかと思いました。
さて、興奮状態のままで夜更かししてしまいました。まあ明日は休みですから大丈夫です。本当に年末ギリギリでこんな素晴らしいアルバムに出会うことができて本当に最高です。これがThe Eaglesなどの超メジャーバンドでなくFirefallだったことが尚更嬉しいです。初期メンバーから45年、Jock Bartleyさんに心より御礼申し上げます。
