It is still very hot in India and we all are waiting for monsoon rain.
Today, I would like to share about the timing of saying "Thank you" and "Sorry".
As a Japanese, I have been often told, "You say"Thank you" and "Sorry" very often".
In Japan, we often believe that expressing gratitude and apology is good thing.
Many people in Japan actually express gratitude and apology very often.
And that is considered as the beauty of good manner.
I agree that this is a part of beautiful culture in Japan.
But outside of Japan, it seems many people say less "Thank you" and "Sorry" than us.
For example, many people rarely say "Thank you" and "Sorry" in India.
But it seems that doesn't mean they don't feel gratitude or apology.
Many of my Indian friends told me, "We rarely say "Thank you" among friends".
Actually they got a bit angry when I often said, "Thank you" to them.
They replied, "Why you said "Thank you"? We are friends, right?".
It was very difficult for me to understand that.
But I came to know that they consider "Thank you" as the words of formality.
Instead of saying "Thank you", they often repay the kindness by their action.
And it's off the topic but, most of them rarely split the bill whenever they go out to eat.
So I often got a treat from them.
In the same way, many people rarely say "Sorry".
They sometimes say it when they really feel sorry.
But most of the time, they remember their mistakes and try not to make the same mistake instead of saying "Sorry".
Well, I felt this is not only about India but the same things happened to me in many different countries.
So, maybe it's nice to try not to say "Thank you" too often but try to repay the kindness by our actions.
