Hello everyone!

Today I would like to share with you a memorandum board (pilots knee board)that was used by a naval aviator.

As you can see in the photo, they were used by naval aviators as personal equipment.
They were made by dexterous mechanics and others using the outer panels (duralumin) of discarded fighter planes and other materials.
They were used to hold recording papers, maps, etc., and were strapped to the thighs.

Let's take a look at the reproduction!

We received orders from several people this time, and we made 4 types, so let's take a look at them in order!

Item ordered by Mr. H.M., Nagano, Japan

Order from Y.K., Tokyo

Order from S.I., Saitama, Japan

It seems that is the most popular type.

Use a strap similar to the strap for aviation goggles.

It is also interesting to use the metal with a cutout as a pencil holder.

It is a small clasp, but it serves to hold down the paper and fit the top cover.

The outer panel is in a fighter plane hue.
After long use, just as the paint on a fighter plane will peel off, so will the Memorandum board.
That also gives it a good taste.

Like this.

The corners are well used and the clasp can be slipped on with one finger.

This Memorandum board uses a string clasp, instead of a strap.
It is tied with a tome-knot so that the length can be adjusted without untying the string.

Just slide the cord around and tie it around your foot.
There is wisdom in the way the knot is tied.

The corners of this board are also well used and can be opened and closed by simply slipping your fingers over them.
The L-shaped clasp is also a good fit.

This memorandum board has no clasp.
Then how is the paper held down?
The outer frame itself serves as a clasp.

If you look at it from the back, you can see that the outer frame wraps around the board.
It is like closing a lid.

And the pencil storage mechanism is unique.
A cut is made in the metal plate, and leather is inserted through the cut.

Since it is leather, the pencil can be inserted comfortably.

The crew member on the left in the foreground has a Memorandum board that is tied with a string.

That's all for today!

See you soon!ランニング
