On weekends, I go to university library and read and books. the university is on summer break starting in, I had been checking the library's opening calendar before going.
This time, too, I checked the opening calendar in advance and confirmed that it would be open. However, when I actually tried to, doors were closed, the lights inside were off, and there was a sign reading "Closed." When I tried to find what was going on, the website wouldn't load.
After a while, I finally managed to access it, and although the opening calendar still showed the library as open, there was a notice in the "Latest News" section saying that due to a power outage today, the website would become unavailable. If there was a power outage, perhaps never intended to open in the first place.
Looking further into the latest news, I found that Saturdays are actually closed throughout the university's summer break. If that's the case, I wish they had marked the calendar on the website as closed as well.
So that was an unfortunate experience, but afterwards, I went to my usual fish shop and bought hamo (pike conger and cod sadd. The hamo was 700 yen for two fish, and the cod saddles were 300 yen for two fish's worth. Quite a bargain.
I decided to eat the hamo tomorrow, so today I simmered the cod saddles. The lady at the fish shop advised me to first rub them with salt to remove the fishy smell, so I salted them and let them sit for about 20 minutes. Then, I diluted some mentsuyu (noodle soup base) at a ratio of 1:3, added ginger, and simmered them in a pot.
It was tasty, but there was less edible part than I expected. I guess there's a reason it was only 300 yen.
