一聴して世界最高のプリアンプの一つである事を確信させてくれる。
高解像度で精確なリアリティに溢れる再生音は血の通った暖かさがある。
鮮度感が高く、ソースに対する反応が敏感で歯切れのよい描写力で、
心地のよい硬質感があり、きりっとした切れ込みが音の輪郭線を際立たせる。
目の前で楽器が鳴っているのかと錯覚させるほど強い音像の実体感がある。
定位感は明確で、しかも平面的な定位ではなく、
オーケストラの各パートの位置関係は前後、左右に拡がる
奥行き感を再現する。輝きのあるピアノのタッチは鮮明で、
総毛立つ程もの凄い精密感を感じさせる。アクセントの効いた
コントラストの強いサウンドだが、低域の音色の陰影感は深化をみせ、
特に女性ヴォーカルは特筆すべき再現力を持ち、濃厚甘美で、
暖かく官能的で聴き手の情感に訴える表情の豊かさを持ち、
声質も滑らかでじつに魅惑的である。強大なダイナミクスが提示され、
惑星同士の衝突を思わせる壮大なスケール感で驚かされるであろう。
ARCほど過剰な華やかさはなく、比較するとしっとりと落ち着いた風情だが、
星くずの煌めきのような非常に繊細で爽やかなソノリティが耳に残った。
非常に印象的なプリアンプで、卓越した音響パフォーマンスを提示した。

AIの創業者で設計者の Arthur Ferris 氏は1970年代に

アート・フェリス氏は30年間に渡って2,000＄以下のプライスで
最高品質プリアンプを提供し続けました。その結果AIは長年に渡って
低予算の伝説であり続けました。
Audible Illusions Modulus L1 は、Modulus Three の高度な音響と
非の打ち所のないビルド品質を特徴とするラインステージ兼ヘッドフォンアンプです。
ターンテーブルや LP コレクションを持たないリスナー、または高品質のオフボード
フォノプリアンプの使用を選択したリスナーのために、L1 にはフォノセクションの

操作は電源スイッチを押下すると、電源ランプが赤からオレンジになり暖気の状態にはいる。
しばらくしてグリーンの点灯に変わると音が出る。ミュートボタンは電源ボタンの左にある。
audible Illusions Modulus は電源ケーブルのアースピンがない2Pプラグのケーブルか、
電源プラグを分解できるならアースピンからの接続を取り外すなどしないとハムが出る。
電源の取り方及び、電源部の設置には敏感で、ハムを拾いやすい。
電源部のアルミシャシーを止めているネジにゴムのリングを嵌めて
ダンプしたりしてハムを抑え込む工夫が必要である。107dBのスピーカーだと
残留ノイズは少し聴こえる。電源ケーブル交換にも大変敏感な反応を示すプリである。
Modulus L1にはAETの電源ケーブルがマッチングが良かった。プラグを分解して
アース線を外すだけでハムはでなくなります。暖色系の音が鈍るような
電源ケーブルは使わない方がよいだろう。上記のような切れのある音にはならない、
ただ、暖かさを加えるケーブルの音楽性の良さも一番よく表現できるプリアンプかも知れない。
入力はCD入力には抵抗が入っているのでTUNER入力が高音質になる。
またOUTPUT 2にも抵抗が入っているのでOUTPUT 1が高音質になる。
ボリュームのステップはきめ細やかで任意の位置にピタリと合わせられるので
音量調整にストレスは感じない。ボリュームのゲインは低めで2時で爆音となる感じでした。
チューブ一本に付きチューブダンパーを二個ずつ使用してマイクノフォニックノイズを抑え込む。
重要なのが、位相反転回路を持たないのでスピーカーケーブルのプラスとマイナスを逆にして接続すること。
AIのプリアンプは一年から一年半に一度真空管を交換していると聞きますが、
その原因はプリアンプの電源を切っても、真空管のヒーターが点いたままになっているから、
真空管の寿命を考慮すると、しばらく聴かないときは電源ケーブルを抜いておいた方が良い。
