This is something I can write because I don’t own shares in any particular company and don’t have to worry about offending anyone. Autonomous vehicles will not become widely adopted in the market; they will only be able to operate under very limited conditions.

Although experiments with autonomous vehicles have been conducted for many years, the conditions for their widespread adoption in the market have not yet been met. Even ten years from now, autonomous vehicles will not appear on the Japanese market. If you ask why I can say that, it’s because it’s simply impossible to operate autonomous vehicles in regions that experience snowfall. Furthermore, since the risk of accidents involving pedestrians is likely to be higher in densely populated areas, autonomous vehicles will not be distributed in the Japanese market.

Occasionally, I come across the opinion that, since Japan’s elderly population is growing and there is a shortage of taxi and bus drivers, we must rely on autonomous vehicles to address this. However, even if Japan’s aging population increases, this is simply a problem that can be adequately addressed by increasing crude oil imports and expanding the number of taxi drivers. As of 2024, there were 224,428 taxi drivers. In 2004, there were 381,943. Even if Japan’s elderly population grows, as long as the number of taxi drivers is increased to around 400,000, there will be no shortage of taxi drivers. Furthermore, the reason there are only about 200,000 taxi drivers in 2024 is simply because Japan’s crude oil imports have been on a downward trend since the late 1990s, making it impossible to increase the number of taxi drivers.

In the past, the majority of taxi drivers in Japan were men. However, if we encourage a higher proportion of women to become taxi drivers, there will be a sufficient supply of candidates for the profession in Japan.

Since the Russian military has not secured air superiority over Ukrainian territory, Russia has no chance of winning. Furthermore, once the rate of troop replenishment can no longer keep up with the Russian military’s casualty rate, they will be unable to hold the front lines.

If as many drones equipped with video cameras as possible can be flown over the battlefield, it will make detecting enemy forces easier, so I hope Japan will send large quantities of video cameras and semiconductors to Ukraine.

In current combat, it appears there is a clear correlation: if a side can maintain high levels of supply for fuel, ammunition, and semiconductors, it can minimize its own casualty rate; conversely, by reducing the enemy’s supply of fuel, ammunition, and semiconductors, it can increase the enemy’s casualty rate.
