J1ビザであってもアメリカでの所得税は対象になりますので、一般的のその各税率とSSNカードの入手方法等、下記情報を参考にしてください。

To apply for a Social Security Card, take the following items and visit your local Social Security office:
Social Security Application
DS-2019 form
Passport with your J1 Visa
I-94 card
A copy of your Training Plan
