"So I should think," said poor Anne, the remembrance of her errand quelling her resentment. She couldn't afford to snub Mr. Harrison under the circumstances, that was certain. When you had just sold a man's Jersey cow offhand, without his knowledge or consent you must not mind if his parrot repeated uncomplimentary things.

「そのようですね」ここに来た訳を思い出して怒りを抑えながら哀れな気持ちでアンは言った。こうした状況ではハリソンさんをバカにすることもできないのは間違いなかった。知らないうちに、あるいは同意を得ることもなく人のジャージー牛をその場で売り払ったのなら、その人の飼っているオウムが失礼な言葉を繰り返し言ったとしても気にしてはならない。
