このところ精力的に活動している「クイーン・オブ・ソウル」ことアレサ・フランクリンが来る2011年8月28日、ワシントンＤＣのモール（大きな広場）でゴスペル曲「Take My Hand, Precious Lord」を歌うことになった。この日は、黒人公民権運動家マーティン・ルーサー・キング牧師が、1963年8月28日、歴史的な大行進の終点となった日であり、なった地。（なお、この曲は「Precious Lord, Take My Hand」と表記されることもある）そして、キング牧師がこの日ここで伝説となった「アイ・ハヴ・ア・ドリーム」の名演説を聞かせた。
キング牧師は、若きアレサやマヘリア・ジャクソンに彼女らが来ると必ずこの「Take My Hand, Precious Lord」をリクエストしていた、という。これはトーマス・A・ドーシー（作詞）、ジョージ・ネルソン・アレン（作曲）のゴスペルとしてのスタンダード・ソング。アレサも1956年『ソングス・オブ・フェイス』というアルバムでレコーディングしているが、マヘリア・ジャクソン、ニーナ・シモン、アル・グリーン、BBキング、クララ・ワードなど多数のカヴァーがある。
元々1844年にアレンによって作曲された「メイトランド（Maitland）」という讃美歌に新たに歌詞が書き加えられたもの。
ワシントンのナショナル・モールは、2009年1月、アメリカ初の黒人大統領となったオバマ氏の就任演説が行われ、そのときもアレサは、アメリカのアンセム「マイ・カントリー、ティーズ・オブ・ジー（「わが国、それは汝のもの」の意味）(「アメリカ」というタイトルとしても知られている)を歌った。
キング牧師のゆかりの地、ゆかりの日に、アレサが再び、ワシントン・モールに立つ。
「テイク・マイ・ハンド、プレシャス・ロード」の基本的な歌詞は次の通り。
